Measured at Half Its Claim, and Still Among the Stronger Panels

The Elite is a 35 by 8.7 inch panel with 231 LEDs at 660 and 850 nm that hangs over a door, and Kala's guidance is 15 to 20 minutes. Light Therapy Insiders (Alex Fergus), a market-wide tester with a Kala affiliate link, measured an average of 84 mW/cm2 at 6 inches over nine points across the panel with a spectrometer in 2024, against Kala's 161, so light output scores 8; he counted 215 LEDs on the unit he measured, against 231 listed now. Intertek's directory lists it as an ETL-listed luminaire to UL 1598, so it scores 5 on verification; FDA lists it only under its maker Shenzhen Saidi's registration, with no 510(k), though Kala's page shows an FDA Cleared badge. Costco.com owners rate it 3.9 from 11 and fault the missing stand and a flimsy hanger. It is $1,139.99 on kalaredlight.com, with no stand.

  • No stand included; stand versions cost $610 more
  • Hanging wires snapped during one tester's setup
  • FDA Cleared badge on the page, with no 510(k) for the Elite
  • Narrow, with gaps between LED clusters

The Elite is Kala's tall single panel, 35.4 by 8.7 by 3.8 inches and 30 lb in an iron shell, carrying 231 LEDs at 660 and 850 nm with cooling fans. It plugs into the mains and hangs from the supplied over-door kit, with a remote and a timer, and Kala's guidance is 15 to 20 minutes of total exposure or 10-minute sessions. Kala states 161 mW/cm2 at 6 inches and 385 W. It comes with no stand: the Roller Boot version is $1,449.99 and the stand versions $1,749.99, and two Elites sold together as the Elite Duo are $2,119.99. Kala's warranty covers it for 2 years.

Kala is the trading name of Kala Therapy Inc. of Etobicoke, Ontario, founded in 2019 by Cam Stajer, who appeared on CBC's Dragons' Den with co-founder Landon Schiller; the BBB gives its incorporation as March 2021, and its filings give addresses in Etobicoke, Mississauga and Toronto. FDA records name Shenzhen Kaiyan Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. as the maker of Kala's face mask, wand, Mini 2.0, neck device, hat and wrap, and list the Pro and Elite panels under the registration of Shenzhen Saidi Light Therapy Technology. Kala sells from kalaredlight.com, on Amazon US through its own store and resellers, and on Costco.com, which carries the Pro and Elite panels. Its Trustpilot profile for kalaredlight.com reads 3.1 from 2 reviews, one two-star and one one-star, unclaimed and never invited. The BBB rates Kala Therapy Inc. F, not accredited, with 51 complaints in three years, mostly about products and deliveries and 5 of them unanswered, and 1.29 from 17 customer reviews. Health Canada lists a Type II recall of one lot of the face mask in June 2025 because its user manual was unclear. Kala pays affiliates through Superfiliate and its creators' links give 15 percent off, so most write-ups of its devices carry a Kala code or link, and each is named with its tie where it is used. Kala's own review widget and channels, its ambassadors and its Team Canada athletes count in no pool, nor does kalaredlighttherapyreviews.ca, a single-brand affiliate site; Daryl Stubbs's Kala reviews count nowhere because his sites and channel carry links for Rouge, PlatinumLED and Bon Charge. Several Reddit commenters accused pro-Kala accounts of being company-linked, and those comments are not used. Amazon shows its review text only after sign-in, so the Amazon pools read star ratings alone, with no review text and no Vine count. Every Kala device carries a 2-year limited warranty; returns are taken within 30 days less a $15 restocking fee, at the buyer's shipping cost, and the returns page lists the mask, neck device, wand, wrap, hat and Quad as final sale although every product page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. On this row all five pools are populated: Reddit, web, YouTube and the retailer pool read the Elite itself, and Amazon reads the Pro.
