This is the filter that goes ahead of a softener when a well carries iron, manganese or a rotten-egg smell, and air injection is the right approach across the concentration range most private wells sit in. Its strongest attribute is the media, since Katalox Light carries more oxidising capacity per cubic foot than the coated greensands it competes with. Its weakest is the absence of any published performance figure: SoftPro states which contaminants the system targets and never states how much of any of them it reduces, at any influent concentration. The buyer's real risk here is sizing rather than chemistry, because the 5, 7 and 10 GPM figures are backwash minimums, and a pump that cannot meet them leaves the bed compacted and the system underperforming while appearing to run normally. Measure the pump before ordering rather than estimating from the pressure tank.

The Iron Master is an air-injection oxidation filter running Katalox Light media, sold in 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 cubic foot configurations. Each size carries a minimum well pump requirement of 5, 7 and 10 GPM respectively, which is the flow the backwash cycle needs to lift and clean the media bed rather than a service rating. It draws an air pocket into the top of the tank on each cycle, so no chemical feed is involved.
