The Big Blue cartridge systems are what a house gets when a backwashing tank is not practical, and this three-stage set is the most complete of them. Its strongest attribute is what it does not need: no drain line, no electrical outlet and no backwash cycle, which makes it installable in a crawl space or an apartment plant room where a mineral tank is impossible. Its weakest is running cost and attention, because three 20 inch cartridges need replacing on a six to twelve month cycle where the tank systems run five to eight years untouched. APEC also drops the warranty to one year on this line against ten on the tanks, and publishes no flow rating or port size for the assembly.
