Usability
The U9000 suits a household that wants documented contaminant reduction from a dedicated drinking tap rather than a whole-house or reverse osmosis installation. Its strongest attribute is certification scope: IAPMO R&T lists it against NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 and 372, a wider and better-evidenced claim than most brands at this price publish. Its weakest is throughput, at a rated 0.75 gallons per minute, so filling a stockpot is a wait rather than a pour. Carbon block filtration also leaves dissolved solids, nitrate, fluoride and hardness untouched, all of which reverse osmosis would address. The trade is a $499 system with a lifetime housing warranty and one cartridge a year, against a cheaper RO unit that strips minerals, sends water to drain and needs more service. On chlorinated municipal water the U9000 is the better buy; on a problem well it is not the right tool.
