Usability Score
A Year Per Cartridge, No Plumber Required

The C7500 is aimed at renters, apartments and anyone who wants certified filtration without drilling a sink. Its strongest attribute is cartridge economy: 1,000 gallons for a $65 cartridge works out near six cents a gallon, which is well under what pitcher and faucet-mount filters cost per gallon while covering far more contaminants. Its weakest is the same 0.75 gallon per minute service flow as the under-sink systems, on a unit that also occupies counter space and rules out pull-out and spray faucets. Certification is the identical IAPMO listing behind the under-sink range, so the filtration itself is not a compromise. What the buyer trades away is the tidy install and the sink-mounted faucet, and gets a system that can move house in a box. At $139.95 that is the strongest value in the WaterChef range.

PROS
  • 1,000-gallon CR75 cartridge at roughly six cents per gallon
  • IAPMO R&T certified against the same NSF/ANSI standards as the under-sink systems
  • Installs in minutes with no tools, no drilling and no plumber
  • Intelligent Monitor LEDs sit in the lid and track real usage
  • Lifetime limited warranty
  • Moves with you, which matters in a rental
CONS
  • Rated service flow is only 0.75 GPM at 60 psi
  • Will not fit pull-out or spray-style kitchen faucets
  • Occupies counter space and leaves a hose running to the tap
  • No reduction of TDS, nitrate, fluoride or hardness
  • Listed against a $199.99 compare-at price that does not appear to be charged

The WaterChef C7500 is a countertop carbon block filter that connects to a standard kitchen faucet with a diverter and needs no tools or plumbing. A single CR75 cartridge is rated for 1,000 gallons, about a year for most households, and an Intelligent Monitor built into the lid tracks actual usage through a green, yellow and red LED. The housing combines high-impact ABS with surgical stainless steel and rated service flow is 0.75 gallons per minute at 60 psi. It is not compatible with pull-out or spray-style faucets.
