Same Filtration, Smaller Cartridge, Sixty Dollars Less
Expert Score

The C6500 exists for the buyer who wants WaterChef's countertop filtration at the lowest entry price and does not care about an LED telling them when to change a cartridge. Certification is unchanged from the C7500, so filtration performance is not where the saving comes from. The weakness is running cost: 600 gallons from a $61.95 cartridge is about ten cents a gallon, against six cents for the C7500's larger cartridge, so the $20 saved on hardware is given back inside two years. Flow is the same 0.75 gallons per minute and the same pull-out faucet incompatibility applies. Anyone keeping the system more than a couple of years should buy the C7500 instead; the C6500 makes sense for short tenancies and second properties. It is the cheapest way into the range, not the cheapest to own.

PROS
  • Same IAPMO R&T certification as the rest of the point-of-use range
  • No tools, no drilling and no plumbing to install
  • Stainless steel and high-impact ABS construction rather than all plastic
  • Lifetime limited warranty
  • Lowest entry price in the WaterChef range at $119.95
CONS
  • 600-gallon cartridge works out around ten cents per gallon, well above the C7500
  • No usage monitor, so replacement timing is a calendar exercise
  • Rated service flow is only 0.75 GPM at 60 psi
  • Incompatible with pull-out and spray-style faucets
  • No reduction of TDS, nitrate, fluoride or hardness

The WaterChef C6500 is the non-electronic countertop system, using a 600-gallon CR65 cartridge in place of the C7500's monitored 1,000-gallon CR75. Construction is the same high-impact ABS and surgical stainless steel, connection is by faucet diverter with no tools required, and rated service flow is 0.75 gallons per minute at 60 psi. It carries the same IAPMO R&T certification and, like the C7500, is not suitable for pull-out or spray-style faucets.
