Usability
This is plumbing protection rather than drinking water treatment. Acidic well water eats copper pipe and pits fixtures, and calcite is the standard fix. It removes no contaminants at all, so it is a pre-treatment stage rather than a filter, and it only makes sense if a water test puts you in the 6.0 to 6.5 pH band. At $1,695 it is expensive for what is essentially a tank of crushed limestone, and the calcite is consumed and needs topping up.

The SpringWell Calcite pH Neutralizer raises the pH of acidic well water in the 6.0 to 6.5 range by passing it through a calcite media bed. Acidic water is corrosive: it leaches copper from pipes, pits fixtures, causes blue-green staining and shortens the life of a water heater. Neutralizing it protects the plumbing rather than the drinker.
Service flow is 12 GPM on a 1 inch connection at 25 to 80 psi, with a 7 GPM backwash rate. The system backwashes automatically to redistribute the media bed and prevent compaction.
This is a pre-treatment rather than a filter. It removes no contaminants and should sit ahead of whatever filtration or softening follows it, since low pH degrades other media. A well water test is the only way to know whether you need it.
