Fine Mesh Standard, Iron Filter Costs Double
Expert Score

This is the Elite tuned for well water, and the tuning is real rather than cosmetic: fine mesh resin is standard, the sizing questions ask for pump output rather than household size, and the KDF option handles moderate iron without a second tank. Its strongest attribute is that configuration flexibility on a single product page. Its weakest is the certification gap that runs through the whole catalogue, compounded here by a resin warranty SoftPro applies to city systems and not to well ones. The buyer choosing the bundled iron filter is committing to roughly $3,000, at which point the separately sold Iron Master alongside a softener-only Elite is worth pricing against it. Anyone with hydrogen sulfide or iron above roughly 3 ppm should treat that bundle as mandatory rather than optional, because fine mesh resin absorbs iron and loses capacity doing it.

PROS
  • Fine mesh resin and 1 inch ports fitted as standard
  • KDF upgrade available for moderate iron without a second tank
  • Checkout sizing keyed to measured well pump output
  • Lifetime warranty on the mineral and brine tanks
  • Same upflow efficiency architecture as the city model
CONS
  • SoftPro's resin warranty excludes well systems, per WaterFilterGuru's review
  • Iron above roughly 3 ppm needs the bundled AIO filter, which more than doubles the price
  • No rated service flow rate published at any capacity
  • No NSF, WQA or IAPMO listing exists under the SoftPro brand name
  • Eighteen of the thirty-six variants on this page carry no SKU in SoftPro's own catalogue data

The well version of the Elite Smart HE ships with fine mesh resin and 1 inch ports, in 32,000, 40,000, 48,000 and 64,000 grain capacities. The same page sells two upgrades: a KDF media addition for moderate iron at roughly $200 over the base price, and a bundled air-injection iron filter for high iron and sulfur running between $2,827 and $3,367 depending on capacity and well pump output. Three well pump flow bands are selectable at checkout: 6 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11-plus GPM.

Social Scores

Product-line. The Elite softener is the only SoftPro product with meaningful independent coverage, and the city and well versions are usually discussed together. SoftPro also operates qualitywatertreatment.com and the Quality Water Treatment YouTube channel, and neither is counted as an independent source.

Reddit Score5.0

Product-line. An r/Plumbing thread asks directly whether anyone has used the Elite and draws favourable comment on its efficiency and automation, alongside scepticism about the review count on SoftPro's own site. Two further threads, in r/WaterTreatment and r/Plumbing, describe poor post-sale service and a defective unit that shed media into household fixtures. Thread bodies were read through search snippets rather than full extraction.

Google Score8.0

Product-line. WaterFilterGuru installed an Elite on a 120 ppm private well in Milner, Colorado, measured better than 99 percent calcium and magnesium reduction with a corresponding rise in sodium, and ranked it second among salt-based softeners at 4.5 out of 5. The same review established that the certifications belong to Canature rather than SoftPro. QualityWaterLab separately rates it 4.5 out of 5.

YouTube Score8.0

Product-line. WaterFilterGuru's Elite install-and-test video has roughly 22,000 views, states it is not sponsored, and reports post-install laboratory results. The Elite also places second in a 2026 six-softener comparison video. SoftPro's own Quality Water Treatment channel is excluded.

User Review Score7.0

Brand-level. SoftPro sells factory-direct, so there is no retailer pool. Two third-party profiles exist and disagree: Trustpilot shows 4 out of 5 from 14 reviews for softprowatersystems.com, while the BBB shows 2.78 out of 5 from 9 customer reviews for Quality Water Treatment, Inc., the same operator. Neither entity is BBB accredited and both pools are small. The 8,000-plus review count shown across SoftPro's own product pages is its own widget and is not counted.
