Usability

5.1 out of 10
  • Output: 120 V from one unit; split phase or three phase needs paired units
  • Line mode: over 95 percent passing utility power
  • Overload: 100 ms at 205 percent load, 5 s at 150 percent, 10 s up to 150 percent
  • Temperature: runs from 14 to 104 °F
  • Solar: two 18 A trackers, 90 to 450 V MPPT range, 550 V maximum, 8,000 W
  • Transfer: 20 ms in appliance mode, up to 50 ms in parallel
  • Near-miss: TÜV Rheinland CU 72226369 (2022-05-20) lists RS-H6548 to UL 1741 and CSA 107.1

Long Solar strings, single phase per unit

  • What it is: a 48 V all-in-one off-grid inverter with 120 V output, two high-voltage MPPT inputs and a 120 A AC charger
  • The trade-off: high solar input and six-unit stacking, but 120 V only from one unit and a short prorated warranty
  • Not checked: Rich Solar publishes no no-load draw for this model, and its linked manual is for the earlier RS-6548S
  • Look elsewhere for: 240 V from a single unit or a longer unprorated warranty

Strengths

  • Strong solar input on long panel strings
  • Parallel stacking for larger systems
  • Fast transfer in UPS mode
  • Built-in Wi-Fi monitoring
  • Closed-loop battery communication

Drawbacks

  • Single-phase output from one unit
  • No published no-load draw
  • Short prorated warranty
  • Product page weight and size disagree with the spec sheet
  • Backordered at richsolar.com

  • Scope: few Reddit threads name Rich Solar, and those found are complaints
  • Battery: an r/SolarDIY owner's new ALPHA 5 read 6.7 V instead of 48 V, and Rich Solar's technician had not returned his call after two days (August 2023)
  • Order: an r/SolarDIY buyer waited from March for an out-of-stock ground mount, then was told its price had risen from $180 to $699 and cancelled; the refund took months (May 2025)

  • The Solar Lab: tested the NOVA 6500S, an earlier 6.5 kW model in this line now sold out, and measured 1.1 to 1.2 A at idle, about 60 W (October 2024)
  • Load: it delivered its 6,500 W rating and ran a roughly 7,300 W load
  • Verdict: a solid purchase for simple 120 V off-grid setups, held back by a clunky setup, a dated app and no 240 V from one unit
