5.7 out of 10

Its 30 A output works out to 384 W at 12.8 V, so it scores 4 on capacity.

Renogy's product page for the line prints 94 percent charging efficiency against the manual's 'up to 97 percent', and the lower figure scores, so it scores 4 on efficiency.

It has a smart-alternator (Euro 6) mode that starts above 12.0 V and stops below 11.5 V, but those thresholds are fixed, so it scores 8 on operating range.

It takes up to 400 W of solar through MPPT and reaches Bluetooth only through the add-on BT-2 module, with no galvanic isolation, no published IP rating and no parallel mode, so it scores 6 on features.

Intertek's directory lists the RBC30D1S to UL 1741 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1, a US listing and a Canadian one held by model, so it scores 8 on verification.

Renogy's product page and its current warranty document both give 3 years for materials and workmanship, so it scores 4 on warranty and support.

Verdict

It suits a buyer with a 12 V van or truck camper, a few hundred watts of 12 V panels and a modest alternator who wants one box for both charging sources, and who will not need more than 30 A, a 24 V bank or built-in Bluetooth.

In r/vandwellers an owner of Renogy's 50A DC-DC MPPT charger reported two years of alternator charging without a major issue and a 100 W panel that worked as soon as it was plugged in, though the app would not run without phone location turned on (2025). In the same subreddit another owner fried a 50A unit after wiring two panels to about 44 V, finding his was an early unit limited to 25 V while the manual he downloaded said 50 V (August 2025); he later praised Renogy for quickly replacing a unit that failed near the end of its warranty. A commenter in that thread called the combined DC-DC and solar units the one Renogy product people seem to have problems with (2025).

On DIY Solar Forum, Will Prowse, the forum's owner, whose reviews disclose free product, paid promotion and affiliate links, found the DCC50S worked 'extremely well' and 'fool proof' through his limit tests, his one complaint being its then 25 V solar input (November 2019). A Truck Camper Adventure reader who bought a DCC50S, in a review carrying Amazon affiliate links, said it 'has performed very well' keeping his lithium bank charged and isolating the truck's batteries (December 2020). 4WDing Australia, which bought its DCC50S and links Renogy through an affiliate program, was 'fairly happy' with it and singled out the Bluetooth module's app readings (January 2023); commenters there reported unhelpful answers from Renogy support on lithium float voltage.

Renogy is the brand of RNG International, Inc., of Ontario, California, which Dr. Yi Li founded in 2010.

It sells direct from renogy.com and its Amazon and eBay brand stores, and through Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, Camping World and Walmart's marketplace.

The Renogy DCC30S (RBC30D1S) is a 12 V dual-input charger that charges a house battery at up to 30 A from a vehicle's starter battery and alternator, or from solar panels through a built-in MPPT controller. Renogy's manual rates solar input at up to 30 V and 400 W, alternator input at 13.2 to 16 V for a traditional alternator and 12 to 16 V for a smart (Euro 6) alternator, and charging efficiency at up to 97 percent; Renogy's product page for the line prints 94 percent. In smart-alternator mode, with the IGN signal wire fitted, it starts charging once the starter battery holds above 12.0 V for 15 seconds and stops below 11.5 V (13.2 V and 12.7 V for a traditional alternator). When solar and alternator both feed it, each supplies at most 15 A, and below 7 A of solar current a low-current cut-off hands charging to the alternator. Charge current can be set to 30, 20 or 10 A, and profiles cover AGM, gel, flooded, lithium and a user-defined setting. It measures 9.61 x 5.75 x 3.03 in (244 x 146 x 77 mm), weighs 3.11 lb, uses M8 x 1.25 terminal studs and a common negative, and draws under 30 mA idle. Phone monitoring needs Renogy's separately sold BT-2 Bluetooth module on its RS485 port. Renogy sells it alone at $186.99, with the BT-2 module at $214.99 and with the BT-2 and a Renogy ONE Core at $399.99.
