Usability

3.7 out of 10

Its 400 W from 1.65 by 1.60 m unfolded works out to 15.2 percent module efficiency against the 25 percent cell figure Renogy advertises, so it scores 1 on efficiency.

It earns 2 of 8 feature points, for its IP65 rating and the ETFE lamination its Amazon listing names, with no kickstands, no station adapter in the box and no published bypass-diode count, so it scores 3 on features.

Footprint Hero, which links Renogy panels through Amazon and through Renogy's own affiliate program, ranked Renogy's older 100 W mono panel first of five 100 W panels it tested: 71.6 W peak in a December output test (2021) and 570 Wh over 24 hours against 490 Wh from a Newpowa (2023). On DIY Solar Forum, a 2022 thread opens with an owner whose Renogy gear still works after a decade, while a thread titled 'I only get 85W out of my Two Renogy 100W panels' reports one panel as low as 40 percent of rating and four averaging 54 percent.

Renogy is the brand of RNG International, Inc., of Ontario, California, which Dr. Yi Li founded in 2010.

It sells direct from renogy.com and its Amazon and eBay brand stores, and through Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy, Camping World and Walmart's marketplace.

The Renogy 400W N-Type Portable Solar Panel Blanket (RSP400SB, current build RSP400SB-G3) is a folding fabric panel rated 400 W at STC, with 33.6 V and 11.9 A at maximum power, 39.2 V open-circuit and 13.1 A short-circuit. It unfolds to 64.96 x 62.99 x 1.50 in, folds to 16.54 x 15.83 x 4.13 in and weighs 16.09 lb by Renogy's manual. Renogy says it can run partly unfolded at 300, 200 or 100 W. Output is MC4 only, with no USB ports, and the 39.2 V open-circuit voltage needs a station or controller input that accepts it. The manual describes TOPCon monocrystalline cells and Renogy advertises 25 percent cell efficiency; the panel's own area works out to 15.2 percent. It is rated IP65 splash-proof for -10 to 65 °C, and the manual warns against rain and long use in humid conditions. Loops on all four sides take carabiners for hanging, and two shoulder straps carry the folded pack. Renogy covers it for 2 years on materials and workmanship and publishes no power-output warranty.
