Usability

4.9 out of 10

At 400 W it sits on the top rung for a portable panel, so it scores 10 on capacity.

Its 400 W from 2.838 by 0.855 m unfolded, per Renogy's manual, works out to 16.5 percent module efficiency against the 23 percent Renogy advertises, so it scores 1 on efficiency.

Renogy's December 2025 warranty schedule gives 5 years to 95 percent and 10 years to 90 percent output, so it scores 5 on lifespan.

It earns 4 of 8 feature points for an IP67-or-better rating with IP68 connectors, an ETFE front and its kickstands, with no bifacial cells, no station adapter and no published bypass-diode count, so it scores 6 on features.

No certifier directory (Intertek, UL Product iQ, CSA, SGS, TÜV or the CEC lists) lists this model, so it scores 2 on verification.

Renogy's spec table and warranty schedule give 3 years on materials and workmanship, and the page headline adds a 2-year extended warranty the spec table does not carry, so on the 3 years it scores 4 on warranty and support.

Warranty and returns

Renogy sets warranty terms by model, for the original buyer only, and takes unused renogy.com orders back within 30 days, lithium batteries within 7.

Two owner threads name the 400 W suitcase. An r/SolarDIY owner of two chose it for its rigid aluminum frames over cloth panels whose kickstands fold in a breeze, and found both tested good, but its 47.2 V open-circuit kept the pair from running in series into a 60 V station input (May 2024). An r/solarpanels owner found a penny-sized patch of leftover coating on one cell on delivery (July 2024).
