The Brightest Handheld in One Test, With a Cooldown

The Go 2.0 is Joovv's fanless battery handheld, 12 dual-chip LEDs at 660 and 850 nm for one spot at a time, at $549 without its $150 charging dock. Light Therapy Insiders, which earns commission from six competing brands and holds no Joovv code, read 37.1 mW/cm2 at peak at 6 inches on a spectrometer, the highest of the seven handhelds in its 2021 test; a peak is not an average, so output is not scored. Intertek lists the Go 2.0 as ETL classified to the medical electrical safety standard; there is no 510(k), and Joovv's "Class II Medical Device" badge describes the exempt ILY product code it is listed under. Each 10-minute session is followed by a 10-minute cooldown, modes change only through the app, and the same tester timed the battery at about 75 minutes against Joovv's 2 hours. It carries a 1-year warranty, and an opened return within 30 days costs a $50 restocking fee; owners on Reddit report a Bluetooth link that would not connect and a return Joovv refused.

PROS
  • Highest measured peak of seven handhelds in a 2021 test
  • ETL classified by Intertek to the medical electrical safety standard
  • Fanless and silent
  • Travel case and eyewear included
  • Silicone grip handle named on the page
CONS
  • 10-minute cooldown after every 10-minute session
  • Modes change only through the app
  • Battery timed at about 75 minutes against 2 hours claimed
  • No 510(k); "Class II Medical Device" describes an exempt listing
  • 1-year warranty and a $50 restocking fee on opened returns
  • 9 V barrel adaptor, not USB-C

The Joovv Go 2.0 is Joovv's battery handheld: 5.75 x 3.75 x 1.47 in and about 1.32 lb, with 12 dual-chip LEDs at 660 and 850 nm, a silicone grip handle and no fan. Joovv states up to 5 W of light and more than 100 mW/cm2, recommends 10-minute sessions at 6 to 12 in, and follows each session with a 10-minute cooldown. The battery runs up to 2 hours and recharges in about 5.5 hours from a 9 V adaptor. The $549 price includes a travel case and eyewear; the charging dock is $150 more, and changing light modes needs the Joovv app.

Joovv, Inc. of Reno, Nevada sells its devices direct from joovv.com, and its warranty covers only devices bought there. No US retailer or Amazon US listing carries a Joovv device, so the Amazon and retailer pools are empty at every level. Its Trustpilot profile reads 1.4 from 76 reviews, 86 percent one-star against 5 percent five-star, on a profile Joovv has not claimed, has never invited reviews to and does not answer; the recurring complaints there are email-only support, refused returns and owner-paid shipping on warranty repairs. The BBB rates Joovv, Inc. B+ without accreditation, with 14 complaints closed in three years, and no Joovv device has been recalled.
