Usability
For $20 over the filter-only version this comes with a head matched to the 2.5 GPM the filtration is rated at, which removes the main way of accidentally degrading performance and makes it the sensible default of the range. Its strongest attribute is owner satisfaction, and it is measured rather than asserted: Home Depot publishes a 92 percent recommend rate on it, the highest on any Aquasana product, and it carries the largest product-level Amazon pool the brand has at 4.3 from 3,236 ratings. Its weakest is what a laboratory measured: chlorine down 57 percent where the tester expects 80 percent minimum from the category, trihalomethanes still above the strictest health guideline after filtration, hardness essentially unmoved, and zinc rising above guideline from the KDF media. That tester scored it 7.86 in a ten-filter comparison, second from last, and left it out of the following year's round-up entirely. It reduces chlorine and nothing else, so it is a hair and skin product rather than water treatment. The trade is a well-built, cheap-to-run shower filter whose measured chlorine performance is well short of what its own category manages.
- 92% recommend rate at Home Depot, the highest on any Aquasana product
- Supplied head is matched to the 2.5 GPM the filter is rated at
- Highest design score of ten shower filters in independent testing
- Ongoing cost of just over half a cent per gallon, scored 9.75 on maintenance
- Three settings: Tropical Rain, Massage and Combination
- DIY install in minutes on a standard 1/2 inch connection
- Independent testing measured chlorine down 57%, against a stated category expectation of 80% minimum
- Not certified for chlorine reduction; the 90%-plus figure is Aquasana's own testing
- Placed second from last of ten filters in independent testing and was omitted from the following year's round-up
- Chlorine only — no reduction claim for lead, PFAS or chloramines
- 10,000 gallons or six months, so two cartridges a year
- 1-year limited warranty and a 115F temperature ceiling
This is the standard Aquasana shower filter supplied with its own shower head, which offers three settings: Tropical Rain, Massage and Combination, changed by turning the face of the head.
Filtration is identical across every configuration in the range: independently tested to NSF/ANSI Standard 177 to reduce over 90% of chlorine for 10,000 gallons or up to six months, using coconut shell carbon and patented copper-zinc KDF media certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61. The upflow design prevents media channelling and holds shower pressure.
At 10,000 gallons and roughly 2.5 GPM, a cartridge covers about 400 ten-minute showers. Installation is DIY on a standard 1/2 inch connection.
