APEC Water Systems is the consumer brand of Advanced Purification Engineering Corp, founded in 1995 and based in City of Industry, California, where it assembles its reverse osmosis systems. The company is now part of the Culligan International group. Its catalogue runs to more than 2,800 listings, the overwhelming majority of which are replacement cartridges, membranes and fittings; the own-brand system range is roughly forty products across point-of-use reverse osmosis, backwashing whole house filtration, softening and iron removal.
The Essence and Ultimate reverse osmosis lines are the reason the brand is well known. The ROES-50 is the most independently tested system on this site: TechGearLab ranked it first of thirteen filters in July 2026 with complete laboratory removal of lead, arsenic, uranium and lithium, and Water Filter Guru scored the closely related ROES-PH75 at 8.87 overall in an explicitly unsponsored review that measured 42 GPD against a 75 GPD nameplate.
Certification is the weak point, and it is a specific weakness rather than a general absence. APEC holds a WQA Gold Seal on five of its systems, and that seal certifies to NSF/ANSI 58 for total dissolved solids reduction. The copy on those same product pages claims removal of up to 99 percent of contaminants and names fifty-two of them. One tankless model, the ROTL-A1000, states IAPMO certification to NSF/ANSI 58 and NSF/ANSI 372, the broadest listing in the range. Nothing else carries a listing of any kind, including every whole house, softening and well water product, where APEC states only that its media and components are NSF certified.
The other consistent criticism is water use. The tank systems run at roughly three gallons to drain per gallon produced and owners at low line pressure report worse. The tankless range answers that at two-to-one and one-to-one ratios but gives up certification entirely to do it. APEC publishes no reduction percentage for any named contaminant on any product, and no service flow rate for most of its whole house line.
