Cheapest Tank Here, Built For Well Metals
Expert Score

At 1,331 dollars for the fiberglass 1.5 cubic foot configuration this is the least expensive point-of-entry system Crystal Quest makes, and it targets the three problems that define well water: iron staining, manganese specks and the rotten-egg odour of hydrogen sulfide. The page explains the chemistry correctly, noting that the same low-oxygen, low-pH conditions that dissolve iron and manganese also release hydrogen sulfide, which is why the three usually arrive together. Automatic backwash and 9 to 11 GPM service flow are the same platform as the rest of the tank range. The gap that matters on a well is the absence of any published ppm ceiling for iron, manganese or sulfide, so there is no way to check the system against a water test before buying, and Crystal Quest publishes no NSF, IAPMO or WQA listing. Anyone with a test result above nuisance levels should ask for a written recommendation before ordering.

A backwashing point-of-entry tank filled with MetalX oxidising media, targeting iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide, behind sediment and carbon block pre-filtration. Sold in 1.5 and 2.0 cubic foot media volumes in fiberglass or stainless tanks, rated 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 gallons at 9 to 11 and 10 to 13 GPM service flow. A SMART filter stage can be added as a second tank.

Social Scores

Social Score

Brand-level throughout. Crystal Quest is factory-direct with a thin independent review footprint, so every pool below is scored at brand level and the scope is named in each summary. The review widget on crystalquest.com is the manufacturer own collection and is not scored.

Reddit Score7.0

Brand-level. An r/Plumbing commenter reports running a 14-stage Crystal Quest whole-house setup, changing filters on schedule, and rating the difference it makes. An r/Iowa thread asking for whole-house filtration recommendations lists Crystal Quest alongside the US Water Systems Defender. No thread discussing metal removal specifically was located.

Google Score6.0

Brand-level. Independent coverage is thin and splits sharply: writeups credit the media breadth, US assembly and roughly 40 years of trading, and criticise the absence of any finished-system certification listing under the brand name at NSF, IAPMO or WQA. One independent writeup notes specifically that Crystal Quest publishes no iron, manganese or sulfur ppm ceilings. Crystal Quest holds an A+ BBB accreditation, which is a business rating rather than a product one.

YouTube Score5.0

Brand-level. Most Crystal Quest video coverage is affiliate roundup content with a discount code rather than testing; one such roundup names this system as its heavy metals pick. The one independent lab-tested result located is on the brand bath filter and is negative.

Amazon Score9.0

Brand-level. The Amazon brand insights panel on Crystal Quest listings shows 4.3 stars across more than 1,000 ratings, with 5,000-plus orders in the trailing three months. The pool is dominated by replacement cartridges and small point-of-use items, not point-of-entry tanks, so it says nothing useful about this system.

User Review Score8.0

Brand-level. The Trustpilot profile for crystalquest.com carries a 4.0 rating across roughly 43 reviews, a small pool for a company of this age. Positive reports centre on water taste and on ordering the correct replacement part; negatives cluster after the sale, on returns and refunds.
