The Only Filter Here With No Refill Bill
Expert Score

The WHP1 is the cheapest genuinely useful thing Express Water sells, because it is the one product in the catalogue with no consumable attached to it - the 50 micron screen is flushed rather than replaced, so the $61 is the entire lifetime cost. Its job is to catch the coarse material that would otherwise blind off a $200 cartridge set, which makes it the correct first purchase for anyone on a well or an old municipal main, ahead of any of the systems above. Fifty microns is deliberately coarse and it will pass silt, so it complements rather than replaces a pleated sediment cartridge. The clear housing means the flush interval is obvious by eye instead of by guesswork. There is no certification and the one-year warranty applies, but on a $61 mechanical part with no electronics that matters less than it does elsewhere in the range.

PROS
  • Reusable screen - flushed rather than replaced, so there is no ongoing filter cost
  • 1 in and 3/4 in adapters supplied, fits most mains
  • Clear housing shows loading without dismantling anything
  • Correct protection ahead of any cartridge system, softener or water heater
  • Wide 15 to 115 PSI operating range
  • Cheapest product in the range at $61
CONS
  • 50 micron is coarse - it passes silt and does not replace a pleated sediment cartridge
  • Requires a bucket or drain position under the flush valve
  • No NSF certification
  • One-year warranty
  • Express Water files it under accessories, so it is easy to miss when buying a system
  • Clear housing must be kept out of direct sunlight

The WHP1 is a spin-down sediment pre-filter with a 50 micron reusable mesh cartridge in a clear housing, fitted to a stainless steel mount with 1 in and 3/4 in adapters supplied. Rather than being replaced, the screen is flushed through a valve at the base. It operates between 15 and 115 PSI at 0.25 gallons per second and includes a pressure gauge and release button.

Product-level where an independent pool exists, brand-level elsewhere. Express Water publishes its own rating widget on every product page; that is the manufacturer's own data and is not scored here.

Google Score6.0

Brand-level. Editorial coverage places Express Water at the budget end of the category and notes the absence of system-level certification across the range. No product-level editorial coverage of the spin-down filter was found.
