The Max Flow is the standard Rhino for a house with more than two and a half bathrooms, and that is the whole of the difference. Its strongest attribute is throughput: 14 GPM against 7, on the same 1,000,000 gallon or ten-year tank. Its weakest is that $800 buys flow and nothing else, because the media, the certification position and the maintenance schedule are unchanged from the cheaper system. The independent laboratory work on this platform measured 100 percent reduction of chlorine and of every disinfection byproduct detected, and equally found no reduction of aluminium, barium or fluoride. The 57 inch tank needs more vertical clearance than the standard Rhino, which is the practical constraint most likely to decide the purchase. The trade is a large sizing upgrade for a household that needs it, against a premium that returns nothing to a household that does not.
- 14 GPM rated flow, double the standard Rhino and enough for up to six bathrooms
- Independently lab-tested at 100% reduction of chlorine and of all three detected disinfection byproducts
- 1,000,000 gallon or 10-year capacity, unchanged from the standard Rhino
- No electricity, drain line or back flushing required
- 10-year limited warranty on the tank and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee
- $800 more than the standard Rhino for flow rate alone, not better filtration
- Independent certification covers chlorine, not lead, PFAS or chloramines
- 57 inch tank height needs more vertical clearance than the standard Rhino
- Pre-filter needs replacing roughly every 2 months
- Tank replacement at the end of life is $1,299, $350 more than the standard Rhino's
The Rhino Max Flow is the large-home version of Aquasana's whole house filter. It uses the same activated carbon and copper-zinc KDF media as the standard Rhino in a taller tank, and an improved divider valve raises rated flow from 7.0 GPM to 14.0 GPM with a 14.5 GPM peak.
The flow figure is the point of the product. Aquasana's NSF/ANSI Standard 42 testing for this model was performed at 14 GPM rather than 7, so the 97% chlorine reduction claim holds at the higher throughput rather than degrading with it. Capacity is unchanged at 1,000,000 gallons or up to 10 years, and the tank carries the same WQA certification to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61.
Aquasana sizes this system for homes with up to 6 bathrooms and up to 8 occupants. Below that, the standard Rhino delivers the same filtration for $800 less.
