On a well that pumps sand, this is the first thing to fit and the cheapest insurance in Kind's catalogue. Its strongest attribute is the sun cover, which is not a gimmick: clear spin-down bowls grow algae when installed in daylight, and most competing filters at this price either omit a cover or sell it separately. The 100-micron stainless screen is reusable rather than consumable, so ongoing cost is nil unless the screen is damaged, and clearing it is a one-minute job with no tools. Protecting a downstream 5-micron cartridge from coarse grit extends that cartridge's life considerably, which is where the real saving comes from. The weakest attribute is scope: at 100 microns this catches sand and grit and nothing finer, so it does not replace a sediment cartridge and is not a filter in the sense most buyers mean.
