Usability
The Royal is the Big Berkey with an extra gallon of storage and the same four-element ceiling, for forty-one dollars more. If your household empties the lower chamber before it refills - which is the usual reason people size up - that gallon is worth more than the price gap. If it does not, the Big Berkey does the same job in less vertical space.

The Royal Berkey holds 3.25 gallons across two AISI 304 stainless chambers and filters entirely by gravity, with no electricity, plumbing or line pressure required.
It ships with two Black Berkey elements and accepts up to four. Two give up to 4 gallons per hour, four take it to roughly 7. Up to four PF-2 elements can be fitted below the Black Berkeys for fluoride and arsenic reduction.
At 23 in. tall and 9.5 in. across, the Royal is the point in the range where the system stops being a countertop appliance for most kitchens and starts wanting a dedicated stand or a spot beside the sink. It is generally sized for two to six people.
