The Size Most Families Should Actually Buy

The CF4 is the sensible middle: a third more flow than the CF1 for four to six bathrooms, without the 1.5 inch plumbing change the CF+ forces. Filtration, media life and running cost are identical across all three, so you are buying throughput and nothing else. Independent reviewers testing the CF1 with three simultaneous fixtures recommend this size for anyone with four or more bathrooms.

PROS
  • 12 GPM service flow, a third more than the CF1
  • Keeps the 1 inch connection, unlike the CF+
  • 1,000,000 gallon media capacity, roughly ten years
  • Only maintenance is a 5 micron pre-filter every 6-9 months at about $40
  • No salt, no electricity, no wastewater
  • Lifetime warranty plus a 6-month money-back guarantee
  • Independent reviewers recommend this size for 4+ bathrooms
CONS
  • No published NSF/ANSI certification for the complete system
  • Does not soften water; scale needs a separate conditioner
  • 10 by 54 inch tank needs dedicated floor space
  • Priced between the CF1 and CF+ for throughput alone
  • Not for microbiologically unsafe water without separate UV
  • SpringWell's permanent discount framing makes the reference price hard to read
  • The 6-month guarantee carries a 25% restocking fee plus return shipping

The SpringWell CF4 is the mid-size ActivFlo whole house filter, rated at 12 GPM service flow for homes with four to six bathrooms. Filtration is identical to the CF1 and CF+: an upflow design that prevents channeling, a KDF copper-zinc bed for chlorine, a catalytic coconut carbon bed for organics, and a 5 micron sediment filter.

The tank steps up to 10 inches wide by 54 inches tall, 58 with the head, while keeping the 1 inch connection the CF1 uses. That matters, because the larger CF+ moves to 1.5 inch and turns installation into a bigger job.

Media capacity stays at 1,000,000 gallons or roughly ten years, with the 5 micron pre-filter changed every 6 to 9 months at about $40 a pair. Independent testers recommend stepping up from the CF1 to the CF4 for four or more bathrooms with back-to-back morning showers.

The CF4 is the one size in this range an owner discusses by name on Reddit. Independent laboratory testing was performed on the CF1, so the web and video pools are read at line level. The 1,552-review figure was SpringWell's own Yotpo widget and is excluded as a vendor-hosted platform.
