Bone Char For Fluoride, Percentages For Nobody
Expert Score

Whole-house fluoride reduction is a genuinely narrow category and bone char is the media that does it, so this filter answers a question most of the market ignores. Its strongest attribute is that it costs only $170 more than the carbon-only Chlorine+ and adds a capability that otherwise requires a reverse osmosis unit at a single tap. Its weakest is that SoftPro publishes a media life figure and no fluoride figure, which matters because bone char exhausts its fluoride capacity considerably faster than its chlorine capacity, so the single gallon rating describes the wrong contaminant. The buyer is trading a verifiable reduction rate for whole-house coverage that point-of-use reverse osmosis cannot provide. Anyone specifically targeting fluoride should test the treated water at intervals rather than relying on the gallon rating to tell them when the bed is spent.

PROS
  • Bone char is the established media for whole-house fluoride reduction
  • Same 600,000 to 1,000,000 gallon media life claim as the carbon-only model
  • No electricity, no drain line and no wastewater
  • Adds fluoride to the carbon model's claim list for $170
  • Lifetime warranty stated by SoftPro
CONS
  • No fluoride reduction percentage published at any influent concentration
  • Bone char capacity for fluoride falls off well before its capacity for chlorine
  • No NSF or WQA certification exists under the SoftPro name
  • No rated service flow rate
  • Bone char is an animal-derived media, which some households will rule out

The Fluoride and Chlorine+ SUPER Filter is the Chlorine+ chassis loaded with bone char alongside catalytic carbon, which gives it a fluoride reduction claim the carbon-only model does not make. It runs upflow with no electricity, no drain line and no backwash, and SoftPro states the same 600,000 to 1,000,000 gallon media life. It is the only whole-house fluoride option in the SoftPro catalogue.

Social Scores

Social Score

Brand-level. SoftPro's independent coverage is concentrated almost entirely on the Elite softener line, so the scores below are brand-level and reduced where they are applied to a product the pools do not discuss. SoftPro also operates qualitywatertreatment.com and the Quality Water Treatment YouTube channel, and neither is counted as an independent source.

Reddit Score4.0

Brand-level. Three threads carry the pool: an r/Plumbing question about the Elite softener, an r/WaterTreatment post titled as a warning about SoftPro, and an r/Plumbing post describing a defective unit shedding media into household fixtures. Comment on the engineering is broadly positive; the recurring complaint is customer service after the sale. Thread bodies were read through search snippets rather than full extraction.

Google Score6.0

Brand-level. WaterFilterGuru bench-tested a SoftPro Elite on a 120 ppm private well in Milner, Colorado and measured better than 99 percent calcium and magnesium reduction, ranking it second among salt-based softeners at 4.5 out of 5. QualityWaterLab rates the Elite 4.5 out of 5. No independent publication covers SoftPro's filtration products separately from its softeners.

YouTube Score6.0

Brand-level. WaterFilterGuru's SoftPro Elite install-and-test video has roughly 22,000 views and states it is not sponsored. SoftPro's own Quality Water Treatment channel publishes more SoftPro content than anyone else and is excluded. No independent video coverage of anything other than the Elite softener was found.

User Review Score7.0

Brand-level. SoftPro sells factory-direct, so there is no retailer pool. Two third-party profiles exist and disagree: Trustpilot shows 4 out of 5 from 14 reviews for softprowatersystems.com, while the BBB shows 2.78 out of 5 from 9 customer reviews for Quality Water Treatment, Inc., the same operator. Neither entity is BBB accredited and both pools are small. The 8,000-plus review count shown across SoftPro's own product pages is its own widget and is not counted.
