Split phase outdoors, No published surge

  • What it is: a 48 V split-phase hybrid inverter with 120/240 V output, grid export, two MPPT inputs and a 200 A charger
  • The trade-off: split phase, an IP65 case and grid-tie modes in one unit, but no published surge rating and a short prorated warranty
  • Not checked: Rich Solar publishes no surge rating or no-load draw for the NOVA 12K
  • Look elsewhere for: heavy motor start-up loads off-grid

Strengths

  • Split phase from one unit
  • Off-gridgrid-tie and backup modes
  • Outdoor-rated enclosure
  • Arc-fault and rapid-shutdown protection
  • Parallel stacking for larger systems

Drawbacks

  • No published surge rating
  • No published no-load draw
  • Short prorated warranty
  • Heavy for a wall-mount unit
  • Spec sheet and manual disagree on size and weight

The Rich Solar NOVA 12K, model RS-H12K, is a 48 V split-phase hybrid inverter rated 10,000 W continuous at 120 V, 208 V or 240 V (41.7 A per phase), from battery or grid.

Its manual gives a 91 percent DC-to-AC efficiency and lists off-grid, grid-tie and grid-tie-with-backup modes, with an off-grid transfer of under or about 15 ms. Solar input is two MPPT trackers of 18 A each (30 A maximum), a 120 to 550 V MPPT range, 600 V maximum and 12,000 W of PV power.

AC input takes 85 to 140 V per phase at up to 60 A and 10,000 W, with a separate generator input. It charges and discharges a 48 V lead-acid or lithium battery at up to 200 A, with RS232, USB, BMS and Wi-Fi ports and the i.Solar app.

Built in are a 300 A DC breaker, a 60 A AC breaker, arc-fault detection, rapid shutdown, ground-fault and PV lightning protection. The case is IP65, rated from -13 to 140 °F with derating above 113 °F. Up to 6 units run in parallel for 60 kW.

The manual gives 215.5 x 515 x 715 mm and 51 kg (112.4 lb); the 2026 spec sheet gives 8.5 x 20.3 x 31.4 in and 108.0 lb.
