7.0 out of 10

At 8,000 W continuous, its rated output from the battery with no PV or grid, it sits on the 8,000 to 11,999 W rung for a 48 V all-in-one, so it scores 8 on capacity.

EG4 rates its battery-to-AC efficiency at 94 percent and publishes only a standby draw under 55 W, not a no-load draw while inverting, so the efficiency is scored alone, capped at 6, and it scores 6 on efficiency.

Its 12,000 W peak for 1 second, the highest EG4 publishes at 1 second or longer, is 1.5 times its continuous rating, so it scores 3 on operating range.

It has two built-in MPPT controllers, a 10 ms transfer selectable on a single unit (20 ms by default and in parallel), 120/240 V split phase from one unit, parallel operation of up to 10 units, CAN or RS485 closed-loop communication with batteries and a Wi-Fi dongle in the box with the EG4 app, while EG4 publishes no AC charger current, so it scores 9 on features.

Intertek's ETL directory lists the EG4 12kPV, by its model code IV-8000-HYB-AW-00, as Listed to UL 1741 and to CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 under EG4 Electronics LLC, and the California Energy Commission's inverter list carries it, so it scores 8 on verification.

EG4's hybrid inverter warranty gives this model 10 years of full parts or product replacement, with no proration, so it scores 8 on warranty and support.

Warranty and returns

EG4's warranty pages give its XP off-grid inverters 5 years, its hybrid inverters 10, the MPPT100-48HV 3 and its WallMount batteries 10 years or 10,000 cycles prorated, each void for products not bought from an EG4 approved vendor.

Hybrid that runs fully Off Grid

The IV-8000-HYB-AW is EG4's 12kPV, a 48 V all-in-one hybrid inverter with 8,000 W of 120/240 V split-phase output from one unit, two MPPT solar inputs and a fully off-grid mode for off-grid homes and whole-house backup.

Verdict

It suits a buyer who wants 8,000 W of split-phase power and room to parallel more units from one off-grid inverter, and who will not need a published no-load draw or a surge above 1.5 times its rating.

  • Easy for a first-time solar installer
  • Ran an off-grid house setup flawlessly for months
  • Hardware seemed solid
Complaints
  • Firmware update made it back-feed the grid
  • Stopped charging the batteries from solar
  • Three months of support with no fix

An r/SolarDIY owner who bought the 12kPV with two WallMount batteries in spring 2025 for an off-grid setup said that by the end of summer it was working flawlessly and was easy for someone with no prior solar experience, but that after installing firmware EAAB-2525 in January 2026 it stopped charging the batteries from solar and fed power back to the utility despite export being disabled, and three months of calls and emails with EG4 support had not fixed it (April 2026).

  • No-battery mode hard to set up from the manual
  • No-battery feature doubted as well tested

On DIY Solar Forum an owner who replaced a failed battery inverter with a 12kPV could not find how to set up its no-battery mode from EG4's manual, and another member said he was not convinced that feature is well tested (March 2026); too few owner reports to read far.

Every tester found carries a tie. DIY Solar Fun with Ray Loveless, whose video carries a Signature Solar affiliate link and a channel discount code, load-tested the 12kPV per line and with solar, started his 3-ton air conditioner, an inrush he put above 18,000 W, from battery alone with no solar or grid while the lights dimmed, heard the fan under load and called its price about $800 above the 12000XP its weak point (April 2025, about 8,800 views). Gavin Stone DIY Homestead, whose review is marked as paid promotion, titled his test of it massive surge capacity in one small package (June 2024).

EG4 is the brand of EG4 Electronics LLC of Sulphur Springs, Texas, part of Energy Access Innovations with its sister company Signature Solar.

The EG4 12kPV, model IV-8000-HYB-AW (followed by 00-99 on the label), is a 48 V all-in-one hybrid inverter charger that EG4's Connections & Paralleling Guide says can function fully in off-grid only mode, with no utility or generator: 8,000 W continuous pure sine output at 120/240 V split phase (or 120/208 V) from one unit, 4,000 W per 120 V line, and peak ratings of 16 kW for 0.5 s, 12 kW for 1 s, 10 kW for 1 minute and 8.8 kW for 12 minutes, with a 195 A locked-rotor rating. EG4 rates battery-to-AC efficiency at 94% and standby idle consumption under 55 W; transfer is 20 ms by default and 10 ms selectable on a single unit, 20 ms in parallel. Solar input is two MPPT trackers with two strings each, 25 A per tracker, 100-600 VDC input range, a 120-500 V MPPT range, 12,000 W utilized and 15,000 W recommended. AC input is 8,000 W, with 80 A grid and generator passthrough by the spec sheet (the Connections & Paralleling Guide says 50 A on the generator port), and the battery side is 48 V (40-60 V) lithium or lead-acid at up to 167 A charge or discharge, with CAN and RS485 closed-loop communication with EG4 and other listed batteries. Up to 10 units run in parallel (80 kW). The grid-tie functions, export to grid, zero export, peak shaving and AC coupling, earn nothing for an off-grid buyer. It measures 29.5 x 20.5 x 11.2 in (750 x 520 x 285 mm), weighs 110 lb (50 kg), has a NEMA 4X enclosure, runs from -13 to 140 F and is rated under 50 dB at 3 ft. In the box: the inverter, wall bracket, mounting template, two current transformers, the Wi-Fi dongle, 6 ft battery and parallel communication cables, RJ45 connectors, L-brackets, expansion bolts, screws and keys. The 10-year warranty must be registered within the first year, or the buyer must show proof of purchase from an EG4 authorized distributor, to remain valid. It is also sold in Signature Solar's EG4 Home Power Bundle (BNDL-E0012) with a WallMount battery at $7,520.97. EG4 sells through its sister company Signature Solar.
