Usability

7.3 out of 10

At 12,000 W continuous, its rated backup output with no PV or grid, against 14,700 W for 10 minutes with PV, it sits on the 12,000 W and over rung for a 48 V all-in-one, so it scores 10 on capacity.

EG4 rates its battery-to-AC efficiency at 94 percent and its idle draw at about 70 W in normal mode, 5.8 W per kW, so it meets the 93 percent and 8 W per kW rung on both inputs and scores 8 on efficiency.

EG4 publishes no battery-only peak shorter than its 13,500 W for 10 minutes without PV, which is 1.1 times its continuous rating, so it scores 1 on operating range.

It has three built-in MPPT controllers, a 10 ms transfer selectable on a single unit (20 ms by default and in parallel), 120/240 V split phase from one unit, parallel operation of up to 10 units, CAN or RS485 closed-loop communication with batteries and a Wi-Fi dongle in the box with the EG4 app, while EG4 publishes no AC charger current, so it scores 9 on features.

Intertek's ETL directory lists the EG4 18kPV, by its model code 18KPV-12LV, as Listed to UL 1741 and to CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 under EG4 Electronics LLC, and the California Energy Commission's inverter list carries it, so it scores 8 on verification.

EG4's hybrid inverter warranty gives this model 10 years of full parts or product replacement, with no proration, so it scores 8 on warranty and support.

Warranty and returns

EG4's warranty pages give its XP off-grid inverters 5 years, its hybrid inverters 10, the MPPT100-48HV 3 and its WallMount batteries 10 years or 10,000 cycles prorated, each void for products not bought from an EG4 approved vendor.

12 kW split phase, fully Off Grid

The 18KPV-12LV is EG4's 18kPV, a 48 V all-in-one hybrid inverter with 12,000 W of 120/240 V split-phase output from one unit, three MPPT solar inputs and a fully off-grid mode for off-grid homes and whole-house backup.

Verdict

It suits a buyer who wants 12,000 W of split-phase power and a 200 A grid bypass from one off-grid inverter, and who will not need a quiet unit in living space or a short surge rating above 13,500 W. $3,999.99 at signaturesolar.com.

Complaints
  • Stock fans too loud for a living space
  • Noise carried through the walls at night
  • Support refused to help with the noise

Reddit owners mostly report fan noise. An r/SolarDIY owner with the 18kPV in a finished basement found the stock fans too loud for the piano lessons taught downstairs and swapped in 16 dBA fans, which he said probably voids the warranty (April 2025), and an r/diySolar owner said its noise carried through the walls so the household could not sleep and that EG4 support refused to help, so he is replacing it (December 2025).

The Solar Lab, which links Signature Solar through affiliate links and offers a discount code, measured 60 to 70 W idle on battery, ran a 15 kW heater from battery alone and called it a strong contender, with fan noise, awkward handles and its price as the drawbacks (review titled for 2026, read October 2026). On DIY Solar Forum an owner of two 18kPVs in parallel called reliability great (April 2024), while an owner whose unit threw error E019 after about a year said it then would not charge from the grid and EG4 went silent, and a second owner reported the same E019 after a year (October 2025).

EG4 is the brand of EG4 Electronics LLC of Sulphur Springs, Texas, part of Energy Access Innovations with its sister company Signature Solar.

It sells with a cart through Signature Solar at signaturesolar.com and through approved distributors and dealers such as Current Connected, Shop Solar and BigBattery, while eg4electronics.com has no cart.

The EG4 18kPV, model 18KPV-12LV (also labeled IV-12000-HYB-AW, followed by 00-99), is a 48 V all-in-one hybrid inverter charger that EG4's manual says can fully function in off-grid only mode, with no utility or generator: 12,000 W rated backup output at 240 V (10,400 W at 208 V), 120/240 V split phase from one unit with up to 8,000 W per 120 V line, and a peak of 13,500 W for 10 minutes without PV, or 14,700 W for 10 minutes and 15,500 W for 5 minutes with PV, with a 180 A locked-rotor rating. EG4 rates battery-to-AC efficiency at 94%, idle consumption at about 70 W in normal mode and about 18 W in standby, and switching at 10 ms on backup (20 ms default and 10 ms configurable on the grid side, 20 ms in parallel). Solar input is three MPPT trackers (25 A, 15 A and 15 A usable), 100-600 VDC input range, a 140-500 V MPPT range, 18,000 W utilized and 21,000 W recommended. AC input is 12,000 W (50 A at 240 V) with a 200 A grid bypass and a 90 A generator bypass, and the battery side is 48 V (40-60 V) lithium or lead-acid at up to 250 A charge or discharge, with CAN and RS485 closed-loop communication with EG4 and other listed batteries. Up to 10 units run in parallel (120 kW). The grid-tie functions, export to grid, zero export, peak shaving and AC coupling, earn nothing for an off-grid buyer. It measures 34.3 x 20.5 x 11.2 in (870 x 520 x 285 mm), weighs 121 lb (55 kg), has a NEMA 4X outdoor rating (the store page also says IP65), runs from -13 to 140 F and is rated 68 dB at 3 ft. In the box: the inverter, mounting bracket, two 1 in CTs, the Wi-Fi dongle, battery and parallel communication cables, keys, expansion bolts and the manual. The 10-year warranty must be registered within the first year, or the buyer must show proof of purchase from an EG4 authorized distributor, to remain valid. EG4 sells through its sister company Signature Solar.
