The ice machine cartridge is the best-specified product NuvoH2O sells, and the only one in this set that publishes a flow rate, which makes it the easiest to size. Five thousand gallons is ten times the dishwasher cartridge for half the price, so the cost per gallon is dramatically better and the format finally makes economic sense. Scale in an ice machine is a genuine maintenance problem that shortens compressor life and produces cloudy ice, and a chelating cartridge on the inlet is a reasonable response to it. What it does not do is filter, so chlorine taste in the ice is untouched and hardness is unchanged. NuvoH2O publishes no reduction percentage and the product holds no certification. At 74.99 dollars with a quick-connect cartridge, this is the one point-of-use product in the range that is easy to recommend on its own terms.
- 5,000 gallon cartridge, ten times the dishwasher system at half the price
