Usability
The E-1000 is for a city-water household that wants chlorine, taste and organic chemistry dealt with and has no hard-water problem to solve. Its strongest attribute is the format: a one-piece molded manifold that hangs on a wall, needs no power and no drain, and carries a full 15 GPM without the floor space a backwashing tank demands. Independent video testing by BOS — a channel that received the unit free and earns a commission on sales — put it through lab analysis on real supply water and rated it 4.5 out of 5, calling it the best cartridge-based whole-house system it had tested. Its weakest attribute is certification: Kind holds NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine, taste and odour plus 61 and 372 on materials, and nothing at all under NSF/ANSI 53 for health-effects claims or 401 for emerging contaminants. That gap matters because the marketing advertises 155-plus contaminants reduced, a figure that rests on the manufacturer's own lab work rather than a certifier's listing. Filter life is quoted as a time window, six to twelve months, with no published gallon rating, so there is no way to size running cost against a competitor that publishes capacity. What the buyer trades away is scale protection and any independently certified health claim, in exchange for the simplest installation and the smallest footprint in this price band.
- Two-stage sediment and carbon block in a wall-mounted one-piece manifold, no floor tank required
- Rated 15 GPM, enough for a five-bathroom house without measurable pressure drop
- No electricity, no drain line and no backwash water
- NSF/ANSI 42 certification for chlorine, taste and odour reduction
- Lifetime limited warranty plus a 120-day satisfaction guarantee
- Independently lab-tested and rated 4.5 out of 5 by BOS, a reviewer that earns a commission on it
- No NSF/ANSI 53 or 401 certification, so the 155-plus contaminant claim is manufacturer-stated only
- No scale or hardness treatment at all, which the price does not make obvious
- Filter life given as 6 to 12 months with no gallon capacity published
- Cartridges are proprietary, so ongoing cost is locked to Kind's own pricing
- List price is discounted almost continuously, so the number shown is rarely what anyone pays
The Kind E-1000 is a two-stage wall-mounted whole-house filter built around a 20-inch 5-micron pleated sediment cartridge and a carbon block. It runs up to 15 GPM on 1 in NPT connections with no electricity, no drain line and no backwash cycle, and mounts on a bracket instead of standing in a tank. Cartridges are hand-swapped every six to twelve months. It does no scale control whatsoever; that is what the E-2000 and E-3000 add.
