Usability
This is the model for a household on a marginal municipal supply or one that gets boil-water notices, where microbiological risk is the actual worry rather than hardness. The UV stage is the strongest thing in Kind's certification portfolio by a distance: NSF/ANSI 55 is a genuine disinfection performance standard, not a materials listing, and the 316L stainless chamber and 50-watt quartz lamp are better hardware than the plastic housings common at this price. The filtration half is unchanged from the E-1000, so it still carries no NSF/ANSI 53 or 401 certification for health-effects claims. The weakest part of the proposition is the price step: adding UV roughly doubles the cost of the E-1000, and the same UV module is sold separately for less than that difference, which makes the bundle look poorly priced against buying the two pieces. It also gives up the base model's best trait, needing a 110V outlet and an annual lamp and sleeve replacement where the E-1000 needs nothing but hand-swapped cartridges. Footprint grows to 32 by 23.5 by 8 inches and the UV must be installed indoors and protected from weather. A buyer with no bacterial concern is paying a large premium for a stage they do not need.
- NSF/ANSI 55 certification for disinfection performance, a real performance standard rather than a materials listing
- 316L stainless steel UV chamber with quartz sleeve rather than a plastic housing
- 50-watt lamp holding 15 GPM at 95 percent UV transmittance
- Retains the E-1000's 15 GPM flow and NSF/ANSI 42 carbon stage
- Lifetime limited warranty plus a 120-day satisfaction guarantee
- Roughly double the E-1000's price for one added stage, and the UV module alone sells for less than the gap
- Requires a 110V outlet, unlike every non-UV system Kind sells
- Lamp and quartz sleeve are annual consumables on top of the filter cartridges
- Filtration stages still carry no NSF/ANSI 53 or 401 certification
- Cannot be installed outdoors, which the base E-1000 can
The E-1000UV is the two-stage E-1000 filter with Kind's 50-watt UV chamber plumbed in as a third stage. The UV module is a 316L stainless steel body with a quartz sleeve, certified to NSF/ANSI 55 and rated to 15 GPM at 95 percent UV transmittance. Unlike the base filter it needs a 110V outlet and an annual lamp and sleeve replacement. Connections are 1 in FNPT into the filter and 1 in MNPT on the UV.
