Light To Wear, Measured At A Third Of Its Claim

The Illumina is the mask reviewers call the most comfortable they have tried, and it is the only iRestore device with an independent output reading. Light Therapy Insiders, which earns commission and tested a free unit, measured 10.5 mW/cm2 against the 35 to 60 iRestore states by mode, and faulted a nose pinch and poor ventilation. No 510(k) or device listing exists for it, and iRestore makes no FDA claim for it, so it scores at the floor on verification. Amazon rates it 4.5 from 1,006, with ease of use near-unanimously praised and value for money split. The warranty is one year, against two on the helmets, and the 100-day return window is refused on opened items bought in a bundle, per two Reddit reports. At $799 it costs $230 more than CurrentBody's Series 3.

PROS
  • Independent spectrometer reading on record, 10.5 mW/cm2
  • Three published peaks: 415, 635 and 830 nm
  • Integrated silicone eye shields
  • Cordless, with the battery off the mask
  • Amazon 4.5 from 1,006
CONS
  • Measured at 10.5 mW/cm2 against 35 to 60 stated
  • No 510(k) and no device listing
  • Nose pinch and no nose-bridge coverage, per Light Therapy Insiders
  • One-year warranty
  • Opened bundle items refused for return, per two owners

The Illumina Face Mask is a see-through silicone and hard-shell mask with integrated eye shields and 360 LEDs in 120 triple-core bulbs at 415 nm blue, 635 nm red and 830 nm near-infrared. It runs three 10-minute modes from a remote, on a snap-on battery with a magnetic cable, and weighs 0.4 lb. iRestore states 35 mW/cm2 for red and infrared together; an independent spectrometer reading put it at 10.5.

Critics there and on Reddit describe a 12-month money-back guarantee on the hair helmets that refunds the price less a 25 percent service fee and return shipping. The maker, Freedom Laser Therapy Inc of Irvine, California, is not BBB accredited and is rated F, with 30 complaints closed in three years and eight left unanswered. Lookalike domains such as irestore-helmet.com, which calls itself the official website, are not the company's store.
