Tough glass Briefcase, heavy for 100 watts

  • What it is: two 50 W glass panels hinged into a 100 W briefcase with a kickstand, for Goal Zero Yeti stations
  • The trade-off: hard-wearing glass and frame, but heavy for 100 W and under typical folding-panel efficiency
  • Not checked: the temperature coefficient, IP rating and bypass diodes; Goal Zero publishes none
  • Look elsewhere for: MC4 leads, a light panel to carry far, or an output guarantee

Strengths

  • Glass and aluminum frame stand up to knocks and weather
  • Built-in kickstand needs no extra parts
  • Folds in half for carrying
  • Chains with other Goal Zero solar panels

Drawbacks

  • Low output for its size and weight
  • Below-typical module efficiency
  • No MC4 leadso other stations need an adapter
  • No power-output warranty
  • User guide prints a shorter warranty than the policy

Goal Zero LLC of Draper, Utah sells Goal Zero in the US, and the brand belongs to BioLite, which acquired it from NRG Energy in April 2025.

It sells Nomad, Boulder and Ranger panels with a cart at goalzero.com and on Amazon US through its own store, and REI stocks the Boulder briefcases.

The Goal Zero Boulder 100 Briefcase (SKU 32408, model 32408 on Goal Zero's declaration of conformity) is two 50 W monocrystalline panels under tempered glass in aluminum frames with corner protection, joined by a hinge so the pair folds shut like a briefcase.

It is rated 100 W, with 21.5 V open-circuit and 17.2 V at maximum power on the product page, and its user guide gives 18 to 22 V open-circuit.

Output runs through a blue 8 mm solar plug on a 6 ft cable, 14 to 21.5 V at up to 7 A, which chains to other 8 mm Boulder panels; arrays over 150 W need a Goal Zero combiner cable. Unfolded it measures 26.75 x 43.5 x 1.75 in, folded 26.75 x 21.75 x 3.75 in, and it weighs 25.9 lb (11.7 kg).

The box holds the panel with its cord and built-in kickstand and a canvas carrying bag. Goal Zero gives its solar panels a 2-year warranty on its warranty page and product page, while the user guide prints 12 months.

The Boulder 100 Briefcase Solar Charging Kit, at $424.95, adds a pre-installed 10 A charge controller, a mounting bracket and spade, SAE, ring-terminal and alligator-clip cables for charging 12 V batteries. The panel alone sells at $399.95 on goalzero.com.
