Usability
The PRO exists for one reason: carbon does nothing about bacteria or viruses, and UV does. If you are on a private well, or on a small system with a boil-water history, that gap is the one worth closing, and adding UV at the point of entry is the standard way to close it. The problem is what FilterSmart charges for it. The PRO is 1,540 dollars more than the plain 12 GPM FS1000, while the AquaUV unit is listed separately on the same site at 1,585.50 dollars, so the bundle saves essentially nothing and the buyer would be no worse off buying the two pieces. The certification gap also matters more here than anywhere else in the range, because UV performance is exactly what NSF/ANSI 55 exists to verify and FilterSmart publishes no 55 listing, no dose rating in mJ/cm2 and no validated flow rate for the chamber. Without a dose figure there is no way to confirm the lamp is sized for 12 GPM. The UV stage also breaks the range's main selling point: it needs an outlet, an annual lamp replacement and periodic sleeve cleaning, so the no-electricity, no-maintenance framing no longer applies. Worth it if you genuinely need microbiological treatment and accept the manufacturer's word on dose; hard to justify otherwise.

UV inactivates bacteria and viruses that carbon does not touch, which is the case for well water or a home on a system with boil-water history.
