Expert Score

Nitrate is a well-water problem that carbon does nothing about, so a dedicated anion exchange cartridge is the correct answer and few manufacturers offer one at point of use. Crystal Quest publishes a capacity figure of 5,500 ppm nitrate against the cartridge part number, which is more specific than most competitors manage, and the resin is regenerable in principle rather than strictly disposable. The single configuration handles nitrate only, so anyone on chlorinated water should start at the double where the SMART cartridge covers chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals. Nitrate is the contaminant where getting it wrong matters most for infants, and this system carries no NSF/ANSI 53 nitrate reduction listing, no effluent target and no influent limit, which makes it a poor choice as the sole barrier on a well with a known nitrate result. Maximum flow is 0.5 GPM.

PROS
  • Nitrate-selective anion exchange, which carbon-only systems cannot do
  • Capacity published as a number, 5,500 ppm nitrate
  • Three configurations on one page spanning 72 dollars
  • Full operating envelope published including connection size and pressure range
  • Faucet and installation hardware included
CONS
  • No NSF/ANSI 53 nitrate reduction listing on a contaminant where that matters most
  • No stated influent limit or effluent target for nitrate
  • The single configuration does not address chlorine or chloramine at all
  • Maximum flow of 0.5 GPM is slow for a kitchen tap
  • One-year limited warranty and filter media cannot be returned

An under-sink system built around a nitrate-selective anion exchange cartridge rated to 5,500 ppm nitrate, sold in single, double and triple housings. The double adds the SMART redox and carbon cartridge and the triple adds a carbon block. Quarter-inch connection, 20 to 60 psi, 0.5 GPM maximum flow, supplied with faucet and installation hardware.

Social Score

Brand-level throughout. Crystal Quest is factory-direct with a thin independent review footprint, so every pool below is scored at brand level and the scope is named in each summary. The review widget on crystalquest.com is the manufacturer own collection and is not scored.

Reddit Score7.0

Brand-level. Threads in r/WaterTreatment, r/Plumbing, r/HydroHomies and r/sandiego mention Crystal Quest favourably without much detail: an r/sandiego thread recommends the under-sink and countertop lines from years of use, an installer calls the under-sink RO good. No thread discussing nitrate reduction specifically was located.

Google Score6.0

Brand-level. Independent coverage is thin and splits sharply: writeups credit the media breadth, US assembly and roughly 40 years of trading, and criticise the absence of any finished-system certification listing under the brand name at NSF, IAPMO or WQA. Crystal Quest holds an A+ BBB accreditation, which is a business rating rather than a product one. Much of the top-ranking material is affiliate roundup content carrying a discount code.

YouTube Score5.0

Brand-level. Most Crystal Quest video coverage is affiliate roundup content with a discount code rather than testing. The one independent lab-tested result located is on the brand bath filter and is negative. No video measuring this system output was found.

Amazon Score9.0

Brand-level. The Amazon brand insights panel on Crystal Quest listings shows 4.3 stars across more than 1,000 ratings, with 5,000-plus orders in the trailing three months. The pool is dominated by replacement cartridges and small point-of-use items, not the under-sink systems, so it says more about consumable reordering than about system performance.

User Review Score8.0

Brand-level. The Trustpilot profile for crystalquest.com carries a 4.0 rating across roughly 43 reviews, a small pool for a company of this age. Positive reports centre on water taste and on ordering the correct replacement part; negatives cluster after the sale, on returns and refunds.
