Native 24 V drop-in, light on features

  • What it is: a 24 V, 50 Ah LiFePO4 battery sized for Group 27 and Group 31 trays in 24 V systems
  • The trade-off: native 24 V in one light case, but a low charge current and almost no features beyond a cold cut-off
  • Conflict: the spec table gives 50 A discharge and the BMS section 60 A; both score the same
  • Look elsewhere for: cold-weather charging, monitoring or a 48 V bank of more than two

Strengths

  • Native 24 V from one battery
  • Drop-in fit for common group-size trays
  • Mounts in any orientation
  • Blocks charging below freezing to protect cells
  • Unlimited parallel banks

Drawbacks

  • Heavy for its capacity
  • Charge current capped at half its capacity
  • No heater for charging below freezing
  • No Bluetooth or communication port
  • Only two can be wired in series

  • Overall: Reddit threads on Battle Born since December 2025 are mostly negative and centre on the 100Ah battery's positive terminal
  • Terminal: r/overlanding and r/sailing posts relayed Will Prowse's videos of the 100Ah positive terminal overheating under load (December 2025); Prowse is sued by Dragonfly and is not independent
  • Response: an r/batteries post quoted Battle Born calling the terminal's aluminum nut a purpose-built thermal failsafe, and owners there called it a design flaw (December 2025)
  • Suit: r/SolarDIY and r/RVLiving threads on Dragonfly's trade libel suit against Prowse ran largely critical of the brand (June 2026)

  • Battle Born Batteries is the brand of Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp. of Reno, Nevada (Nasdaq: DFLI), a company founded in 2012.
  • Dragonfly Energy acquired the Dakota Lithium brand's assets in July 2026 and runs that brand separately from Battle Born.

It sells with a cart at battlebornbatteries.com, through dealers and installers on its dealer locator, and on Amazon US, where Amazon.com sells its 100Ah battery.

The Battle Born BB5024 is a 24 V, 50 Ah lithium iron phosphate battery of cylindrical cells, storing 1,280 Wh at 25.6 V nominal, sized as a drop-in for Group 27 and Group 31 trays.

Its spec table gives a 50 A maximum discharge current and 100 A for 30 seconds, while the manual's BMS section rates it at 60 A continuous; maximum charge is 25 A, with 0.5C recommended. Charging runs at 28.4 to 29.2 V with a 26.8 to 27.6 V float, and the BMS blocks charging below 32°F while discharging down to -4°F.

Battle Born rates it for 3,000 to 5,000 cycles at 100 percent depth of discharge. It measures 12.76 x 6.86 x 8.95 in, weighs 31 lb and has brass flag terminals in a sealed, water-resistant ABS case that mounts in any orientation.

Two can be wired in series for 48 V, with no limit in parallel, and it has no Bluetooth or communication port. The box holds the battery and a stainless finishing hardware kit of four bolts, four washers and two Nylok nuts. The heated version is its own model.
