Usability
Every other Aquasana product filters through carbon, and carbon does not reduce fluoride or arsenic. SmartFlow does, at 90% and 96%, and it carries NSF/ANSI 58 certification to prove it. It also puts minerals back, which is the standard complaint about RO answered directly. The costs are real: a drain line, drilling, a 3.2 gallon tank under the sink, 250-gallon carbon cartridges twice a year on top of an annual membrane, and a 2-year warranty on a $449.99 system.

SmartFlow is Aquasana's reverse osmosis system and the most heavily certified product it sells. Four stages run in series: a carbon block for chlorine, taste and odour; the patented SmartFlow membrane for fluoride, nitrates, nitrites, arsenic and PFAS; a Claryum advanced carbon block for lead, microplastics, VOCs and mercury; and a remineralizer that puts calcium and magnesium back after the membrane strips them.
It is WQA tested and certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 including P473, 58 and 401, plus CSA B483.1, covering 90 contaminants. Published figures include 90% of fluoride, 96% of chlorine, chloramines, arsenic, pesticides and herbicides, 99% of lead, VOCs and microplastics, and 99.99% of cysts. Fluoride and arsenic are the reason to choose RO over Claryum alone — no carbon-only system reduces either.
Membrane production is 51.4 gallons per day at 96.4% TDS reduction, feeding a 3.2 gallon tank at 0.7 GPM. Aquasana recommends professional installation because the drain line requires drilling.
