Chloramine Claim, No Chloramine Test

This is the only configuration combining a published chloramine claim with flow suited to a large household, which is what the $700 premium over the standard Chloramines model buys. Its strongest attribute is that pairing: 10 GPM on catalytic carbon, on the same 1,000,000 gallon tank. Its weakest is the evidence behind the claim, because the 83 percent chloramine figure is Aquasana's own and no independent publication has measured chloramine reduction on any Aquasana system. Reduction performance is identical to the smaller Chloramines build, so the premium is throughput and a 63 inch tank, the tallest in the range. On a utility using free chlorine the Rhino Max Flow delivers the same flow for $700 less. The trade is paying twice over — once for chloramine media and once for flow — on a claim nobody outside the manufacturer has checked.

The Rhino Chloramines Max Flow pairs the catalytic carbon media of the Chloramines model with a taller tank and a higher-capacity divider valve. Rated flow rises from 7.0 GPM to 10.0 GPM with a 12.0 GPM peak, a 43% increase over the standard Chloramines system.

Independent NSF/ANSI Standard 42 testing was performed at 10 GPM and returns the same figures as the smaller model: up to 83% chloramine reduction and up to 97% chlorine reduction, for 1,000,000 gallons or up to 10 years. The tank is WQA certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61.

At 63 inches this is the tallest tank in the Rhino line, so measure the intended location before ordering.

The replacement tank EQ-1000R holds its own separate file at 4.2 from 46, as does the pre-filter pack at 4.7 from 1,375, so the 685 is not a cartridge merge - it is a system merge across configurations.

Home Depot reads 4.2 out of 5 from 148 on this model with an 83 percent recommend rate, and the recommend rate is what is scored, because 28 of the 30 reviews on the first page carry an aquasana.com attribution line and only two are native to the retailer. That is a mixed file, and a mixed file's star average is lifted by whatever share the brand collected and cannot be separated out. Walmart's 4.6 from 340 is worse for the purpose: four Walmart listings print the identical average, count and five-bar distribution, the bodies on the well listing discuss a city Rhino 1000, and every visible review is the manufacturer's. Home Depot's own brand grid disagrees with its review page by a tenth of a point, and the review page is taken.
