Chloramine Media at Household Scale
Expert Score

This is the only configuration that combines a published chloramine claim with flow suited to a large household, which is why it carries a $700 premium over the standard Chloramines model. Reduction performance is identical; you are buying throughput and a 63 inch tank. If your utility uses free chlorine, the Rhino Max Flow is the same flow rate for $700 less.

PROS
  • Independently tested at 10 GPM for up to 83% chloramines and 97% chlorine
  • 43% higher rated flow than the standard Rhino Chloramines
  • 1,000,000 gallon or 10-year capacity
  • Tank WQA certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61
  • 10-year limited warranty and 90-day satisfaction guarantee
  • No electricity, drain line or back flushing required
CONS
  • 63 inch tank height is the tallest in the Rhino line and needs clearance
  • $700 more than the standard Rhino Chloramines for flow rate alone
  • Chloramine reduction is 83%, materially below the 97% chlorine figure
  • No advantage over the Rhino Max Flow if your utility uses free chlorine
  • Catalytic carbon only, so no KDF bacteriostatic media in-tank
  • Main-line installation, so a licensed plumber is a realistic added cost

The Rhino Chloramines Max Flow pairs the catalytic carbon media of the Chloramines model with a taller tank and a higher-capacity divider valve. Rated flow rises from 7.0 GPM to 10.0 GPM with a 12.0 GPM peak, a 43% increase over the standard Chloramines system.

Independent NSF/ANSI Standard 42 testing was performed at 10 GPM and returns the same figures as the smaller model: up to 83% chloramine reduction and up to 97% chlorine reduction, for 1,000,000 gallons or up to 10 years. The tank is WQA certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61.

At 63 inches this is the tallest tank in the Rhino line, so measure the intended location before ordering.

Amazon pools every Rhino configuration into a single listing, so the star figures below are platform-level rather than per-model. Aquasana's own site shows a separate rating per product page, including a 5.0 on the standard Rhino, which is not a credible aggregate and is not used here.

Reddit Score7.0

Brand-level. Owners across r/HomeImprovement, r/BuyItForLife and r/water consistently report the taste and chlorine-smell improvement is immediate and real, and several note the supplied components are better than they need to be, citing Schedule 80 unions and fittings. Two complaints recur: customer support going unanswered for weeks, and the 20 inch pre-filter's O-ring wearing out with no replacement part listed anywhere. Several commenters also push back on the marketing, pointing out the certified claim covers chlorine rather than PFAS.

Google Score7.0

Brand-level. Independent coverage is broadly favourable on taste, chlorine reduction and cost per gallon, and consistently critical of the same two things: the price before installation, and support responsiveness. Reviewer-collected owner complaints cluster on pressure loss appearing around year three where pre-filters were not changed on schedule, which Aquasana attributes to maintenance rather than the tank.

YouTube Score7.0

Product-line. Most Aquasana whole house videos are affiliate-driven overviews rather than tested reviews, and read positively on taste and installation. The substantive recurring criticisms are the two-month pre-filter interval, the long-run cost of eventually replacing the dual tank, and at least one reviewer reporting the warranty drops from 10 years to 5 on a self-install.

Amazon Score8.0

Product-line. The Rhino family shares one Amazon listing at 4.2 out of 5 across 656 ratings, sold by Aquasana. Positive reviews centre on visible pre-filter loading and the chlorine smell disappearing; negative ones on installation difficulty and support.

User Review Score8.0

Product-line. Home Depot lists the Rhino with pro kit at 4.1 out of 5 across 26 reviews and Walmart shows 4.6 out of 5 across 344 for the conditioner configuration. Recurring themes are noticeably better taste and softer-feeling water, against installation cost and a minority reporting pressure drop after a few years.
