WaterChef is a Nevada-based manufacturer of point-of-use water filtration systems, selling factory-direct from waterchef.com rather than through retail. Its drinking-water range is built on a single technology: a large solid carbon block cartridge, marketed as Big Block, rated at 600 or 1,000 gallons depending on model and running at 0.75 gallons per minute at 60 psi.

The brand distinguishes itself on certification rather than breadth. Its under-sink and countertop systems are listed by IAPMO R and T against NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401 and 372, and its shower filters against Standard 177 at 96.6 percent chlorine reduction over 10,000 gallons. That is a wider set of named standards, with a certifier listing behind it, than most brands at comparable prices publish. WaterChef is also unusually direct about the limits of the field, stating plainly that 177 is the only NSF/ANSI performance standard that exists for shower filtration.

The weaknesses are scope and evidence asymmetry. Carbon block filtration leaves dissolved solids, nitrate, fluoride and hardness untouched, and the company offers no reverse osmosis at all. Service flow of 0.75 GPM is slow. Cartridges are proprietary and list at 32 to 70 dollars. Most significantly, the TrueHome whole-house line carries no certification of any kind, no published reduction percentage and no media replacement interval, which sits awkwardly against a point-of-use range whose entire marketing rests on independent listings. Every TrueHome ECO-SMART system was out of stock at the time of writing.

Systems are assembled in the USA with a lifetime limited warranty on under-sink and countertop housings, three years on shower systems and seven to ten years on TrueHome valves and tanks.
