FilterSmart FS1500 Whole House Filter and Salt-Free Softener Combo 12 GPM
Carbon filtration and salt-free scale control in two tanks, with no drain, power or backwash on either.
$2,395
Usability
The combo is the configuration that makes the most sense of FilterSmart's range, because the two halves cover each other's gaps: carbon does nothing for scale, TAC does nothing for chlorine, and most homes on hard city water have both problems. Bought together at 2,395 dollars they cost 349 dollars less than the FS1000 and FS500 purchased separately, which is a real if modest saving, and FilterSmart will also sell you the filter now and the conditioner later at no penalty. Operationally it is the same easy install as the single tanks doubled: no drain, no outlet, no backwash, and one sediment pre-filter every 8 to 10 months as the entire maintenance schedule. The limits are the same ones that apply to both halves and they do not go away by combining them. There is still no system-level NSF or WQA certification, still no published reduction percentage for any contaminant, and the conditioner still will not soften water or change a hardness reading. Carbon reduces neither lead nor PFAS nor nitrate, and the conditioner will foul on iron and hydrogen sulfide. Plan for about 30 in by 10 in of floor space and two tanks roughly 52 in tall. On the evidence available this is the right FilterSmart to buy if you are buying one, and the wrong brand entirely if you need a certified reduction claim.
- Covers both chlorine and taste and scale, which single-technology systems cannot
- 349 dollars cheaper than buying the FS1000 and FS500 separately
- 1,000,000 gallon or 5 year carbon guarantee, and conditioner media that is not consumed
- No drain, no electricity and no backwash on either tank
- Lifetime warranty on tanks and valve heads
- Filter can be bought first and the conditioner added later without penalty
- No system-level NSF/ANSI certification, only component and materials claims
- No published reduction percentage for any contaminant
- The conditioner half does not soften - no change in hardness reading, lather or spotting
- Carbon reduces neither lead, PFAS, nitrate nor TDS; conditioner media fouls on iron and hydrogen sulfide
- Needs about 30 in by 10 in of floor space for two tanks about 52 in tall
- The permanent 50 percent off framing against a 4,790 dollar reference price makes the real position hard to read
The FS1500 is FilterSmart's dual-tank system, pairing the FS1000 carbon filter with the FS500 salt-free conditioner in one 12 GPM package for one to three bathroom homes. Water passes through the sediment pre-filter, then the coconut shell carbon tank for chlorine, chloramine and organics, then the TAC conditioner tank for scale control. FilterSmart calls it its best selling configuration. Neither tank needs a drain, electricity or a backwash cycle.
