Single-tank softener and carbon filter combined, for homes without space for two vessels.

Usability
The Hybrid answers a specific problem: you need both softening and chlorine removal, and you do not have room for two tanks. Stacking carbon above resin in one vessel solves the footprint issue and removes a set of connections. Reddit sizing discussions recommend it on exactly that basis. The compromise is inherent to the design. A combined bed cannot be regenerated or rebedded independently, so the carbon and the resin reach end of life on different schedules but get serviced on the same one. Chlorine also shortens resin life, which is the reason for putting carbon first, but in a shared vessel the separation is less complete than two tanks in series. If space allows, a Bodyguard ahead of a Matrixx is the better-performing arrangement for similar money.
- One tank instead of two, with a materially smaller footprint
- Handles hardness and chlorine together
- Metered regeneration with smartphone programming
- Fewer connections and less installation labour
- Three sizes
- Carbon and resin cannot be serviced independently
- Less effective separation than two tanks in series
- A Bodyguard plus a Matrixx performs better for comparable money where space allows
- Component-level certification only
- Requires drain line and power
A single tank carrying both softening resin and a carbon filtration layer, so one vessel handles hardness and chlorine together. Metered regeneration with smartphone programming. Sold in 150, 250 and 300 configurations.
