The Only One That Keeps Up With a Big House
Expert Score

At 20 GPM the CF+ more than doubles the CF1's flow, which is what a seven-bathroom house actually needs when three showers run at once. Media life and filtration are unchanged across the range, so you are paying $935 over the CF1 purely for throughput. Check the plumbing before ordering: the 1.5 inch connection is a real change from the 1 inch used on the smaller two, and it turns a simple DIY job into something many owners will hand to a plumber.

PROS
  • 20 GPM service flow, the highest of any SpringWell city-water filter
  • Same 1,000,000 gallon media capacity as the smaller CF models
  • Only maintenance is the 5 micron pre-filter every 6-9 months
  • No salt, no electricity, no wastewater
  • Handles seven or more bathrooms with simultaneous demand
  • Lifetime warranty on tanks and valves plus a 6-month money-back guarantee
CONS
  • 1.5 inch connection rather than the 1 inch on CF1 and CF4, so plumbing may need adapting
  • $935 more than the CF1 for throughput alone, with identical filtration
  • 13 by 54 inch tank needs real floor space
  • No published NSF/ANSI certification for the complete system
  • Does not soften water
  • Oversized and wasteful for a typical three-bathroom home

The SpringWell CF+ is the largest of the three ActivFlo whole house filters, rated at 20 GPM service flow for homes with seven or more bathrooms. The filtration is identical to the CF1 and CF4: an upflow design, a KDF copper-zinc bed, a catalytic coconut carbon bed and a 5 micron sediment filter. What changes is the tank, at 13 inches wide by 54 inches tall.

One difference matters more than the size. The CF+ uses a 1.5 inch connection where the CF1 and CF4 use 1 inch, so it is not a drop-in swap on standard household plumbing and the installation is a bigger job.

Media capacity is the same 1,000,000 gallons or roughly ten years, with the 5 micron pre-filter changed every 6 to 9 months. At 20 GPM this is the only SpringWell city-water filter that keeps up with a large house running several fixtures at once.

SpringWell publishes review scores through Yotpo on its own site, so the ratings below are solicited and moderated by the manufacturer rather than collected on an open marketplace. SpringWell has been owned by Fortune Brands Innovations since February 2024.

Reddit Score8.0

Brand-level. Aggregated analysis of roughly 500 mentions across r/WaterTreatment, r/Plumbing, r/homeowners and r/HomeImprovement puts SpringWell's FutureSoft among the best-regarded salt-free conditioners, cited for TAC media, flow rate and the absence of any running cost. Salt-based and well systems draw less discussion.

Google Score8.0

Brand-level. Coverage is broadly favourable on flow rate, media life and the lifetime warranty, and SpringWell cites Forbes, Money and Washingtonian mentions. Recurring criticisms are the high entry price relative to cartridge systems and the permanent discount framing on its own storefront.

YouTube Score7.0

Brand-level. SpringWell publishes its own installation walkthroughs and most video coverage is DIY-install oriented rather than independent testing. Reviewers consistently report the systems install without a plumber on standard 1-inch plumbing.

User Review Score9.0

Product-line. SpringWell's Yotpo widget shows 4.7 out of 5 across 1,552 reviews for the whole house filter platform, by far the largest pool on the site. The reviews are solicited and published by SpringWell, but the volume is substantial enough to carry weight.
