Usability
Bodyguard Plus is the right pick over the standard Bodyguard when the incoming water carries sediment or when the household volume is high enough that bed channelling becomes a real concern. Backwashing keeps the carbon bed loose and working, and on dirtier supplies it is the difference between a three-year bed and a six-year one. The trade is concrete: it needs a drain line, it needs power, and it discards water on every backwash cycle. On clean municipal water with a decent prefilter, the extra cost and plumbing are not obviously worth it. Certification matches the standard Bodyguard, meaning components only.
- Backwashing prevents channelling and extends media life
- Catalytic carbon addresses chloramine
- Metered valve backwashes on volume rather than a fixed clock
- Multiple tank sizes
- Handles higher sediment loads than the standard Bodyguard
- Requires a drain line, power and wastewater discharge
- Component-level certification only
- Backwash cycle briefly interrupts service
- More expensive than the non-backwashing Bodyguard for the same media
- Featured image is a PNG and may carry transparency
The backwashing version of the Bodyguard. A metered control valve periodically reverses flow through the catalytic carbon bed to lift trapped sediment and reset channelling, which extends media life on water carrying turbidity. Requires a drain line and power, unlike the standard Bodyguard.
