The SpringWell STR-4 is the larger tannin removal system, sized for four to six bathrooms with 45,000 grain capacity and 15 GPM service flow. Tannins are organic compounds leached from decaying vegetation in groundwater; they stain laundry and fixtures and give water a musty taste that carbon filtration does not remove.
The tannin-selective resin regenerates with salt, so the system softens as well as removing colour. The tank is 13 inches wide by 54 inches tall, 63 with the head, and a brine tank measuring 18 by 33 inches is included.
Operating pressure is 25 to 60 psi, a narrower window than the rest of SpringWell's range, so check your supply. As with the STR-1, a water test showing the actual tannin load is essential before buying.
