Usability

6.2 out of 10
  • Cold charging: manual limits charge to 62.8 A from 32 to 50°F
  • Temperature: charges 32 to 131°F, discharges -4 to 140°F
  • Conflict: page gives 8,000+ cycles; spec sheet labels it at 80 percent depth
  • Heater: on at or below 41°F with charge current, off at 50°F
  • App: charge, voltage, current, temperature, cell voltages, cycle count
  • Expansion: up to four in parallel
  • Holder: Rich Solar Inc. (Norco, CA); also Future Star Energy (Shenzhen), trade name RICH SOLAR
  • Schedule: 85 percent cover in year four, falling to 5 percent in year ten
  • Condition: charge within 7 days of purchase and every 6 months
  • List: $1,799.99 at richsolar.com

Heated with Bluetooth, but only 0.5C continuous

  • What it is: a 12.8 V, 314 Ah LiFePO4 battery with a built-in heater and Bluetooth for RV, cabin, off-grid and backup banks
  • The trade-off: cold charging and app monitoring, but a low continuous current for its size and no closed-loop port
  • Conflict: the manual gives lower current and cycle figures than the page; the manual is scored
  • Look elsewhere for: high continuous loads from one battery or inverter closed-loop control

Strengths

  • Built-in heater for cold charging
  • Bluetooth app monitoring
  • Large capacity in one case
  • Good energy for its weight
  • Water- and dust-resistant case
  • Full replacement for the first years

Drawbacks

  • Low continuous current for its capacity
  • Manual and page disagree on continuous current
  • Manual cycle rating well below the advertised one
  • Heater runs only while a charger is connected
  • No CAN or RS485 port for closed-loop control
  • Warranty prorated after the third year
