Usability
This pairing makes sense for a private well that is hard and microbiologically suspect but chemically clean, where softening and disinfection are the whole job. Its strongest attributes are the two halves working to their own strengths: metered ion exchange removing up to 99 percent of calcium and magnesium with a Bluetooth valve and battery backup, and an NSF/ANSI 55 certified UV chamber in a 316L stainless body, which is the only performance-certified treatment stage in this build. The weakest attribute is the price step against what is added. UV takes this over three thousand two hundred dollars at list, roughly a thousand more than the S-650, while the same UV module sells separately for less. Kind still publishes no grain capacity for the resin bed, which makes correct sizing guesswork, and claims no NSF/ANSI 44 for the softening stage. There is no carbon, so chlorine, chloramine and organic chemistry are untreated, and UV requires clear water to be effective, so any well with iron or turbidity needs pre-treatment this system does not provide. Running costs stack up: salt every four to six weeks, a drain line, sediment cartridges and an annual lamp and sleeve. The trade is chemical filtration and sizing transparency for softening plus certified disinfection in one purchase.
- Metered ion exchange removing up to 99 percent of hardness with Bluetooth control and battery backup
- NSF/ANSI 55 certified UV chamber in a 316L stainless body with quartz sleeve
- Resin quoted at 15 to 20 years of service life
- Tanks and media manufacturer-stated as made in the USA
- Lifetime limited warranty plus a 120-day satisfaction guarantee
- Roughly a thousand dollars over the S-650, more than the standalone UV module costs on its own
- No grain capacity published, so the softener cannot be sized against hardness
- No carbon stage, so chlorine, chloramine and organics are unaddressed
- UV needs clear water and this system includes no iron or turbidity pre-treatment
- Salt every 4 to 6 weeks, a drain line, brine discharge and an annual UV lamp and sleeve
The S-650UV is the metered salt-based S-650 softener with Kind's 50-watt UV chamber added. The UV module is 316L stainless steel with a quartz sleeve, certified to NSF/ANSI 55 for disinfection performance, and needs a 110V outlet plus annual lamp and sleeve replacement. Softening is unchanged: up to 99 percent hardness removal, metered regeneration, Bluetooth valve, 12 GPM on 1 in NPT. There is still no carbon stage.
