Usability
This is a cheap component that prevents an expensive problem, and it is worth considering alongside any tank system on a supply carrying visible sediment. Its strongest attribute is the element itself: commercial-grade pleated polyester at 20 inches rather than a spun cartridge, which Kind rates as an order of magnitude stronger and, more usefully, washable. On a well with real sediment load that turns a monthly consumable into an annual one, which changes the running-cost arithmetic entirely. Protecting a UV lamp or a softener resin bed from particulate is also the single highest-value thing a pre-filter does. The weakest attribute is disclosure: Kind publishes no flow rate, no housing dimensions, no port size and no pressure rating for this assembly, which are exactly the specifications needed to confirm it will not throttle a 12 or 15 GPM system it is installed ahead of. There is no certification listed for it either. It is also priced as a complete housing rather than a cartridge, so buyers already running a Kind system with a built-in sediment stage do not need it. The trade is a total absence of published specifications for a genuinely durable and reusable element at a low price.
- Commercial-grade pleated polyester element rated roughly ten times stronger than standard pleated cartridges
- Washable and reusable several times before replacement, which matters on high-sediment wells
- 20-inch element rather than the shorter cartridges common at this price
- Protects softener resin, backwashing media and UV lamps from particulate damage
- Lowest-priced system-level product Kind sells
- No flow rate published, so it cannot be confirmed against a 12 or 15 GPM system downstream
- No housing dimensions, port size or pressure rating given anywhere on the page
- No NSF/ANSI certification listed for the assembly
- Redundant for buyers whose Kind system already includes a sediment stage
- Sold as a complete housing rather than as a cartridge, so it is not the cheapest way to buy elements
This is Kind's standalone 5-micron pre-filter, built to protect softeners, backwashing filters and UV systems from sediment before it reaches them. The 20-inch element is pleated commercial-grade polyester rather than the spun polypropylene common at this price, which Kind rates as roughly ten times stronger than a standard pleated cartridge and washable for reuse several times before replacement. It is sold as a complete housing and cartridge assembly rather than as a replacement element.
