One sediment cartridge, 1 in ports and a gauge – the pre-filter, not the filtration system.

Usability

A Pre-Filter Priced Like A System
Expert Score

The WH100SS does one job - it takes rust, sand, dirt and silt out of the incoming main - and it does it in a full-size 20 in housing with 1 in ports, which is more capacity than most single-stage units at this price. It makes sense as the protection stage in front of a softener, an RO system or a water heater, and Express Water is not overselling it: the product copy is about sediment and nothing else. Where it goes wrong is being sold in the whole house category at $143, close enough to the $167 two-stage system that adds carbon and actually changes how the water tastes. There is no chlorine reduction, no taste improvement and no health-related claim here at all, and nothing in the range holds an NSF certification. Buy it as a pre-filter, not as an answer to a water problem.

PROS
  • Full-size 4.5 x 20 in housing gives long service intervals for a single stage
  • 1 in ports keep whole-house flow at 0.25 gallons per second
  • Pressure gauge and release button included, which many single-stage units omit
  • Correct protection stage ahead of a softener, water heater or RO system
  • Cheapest whole house entry Express Water sells
CONS
  • Sediment only - no chlorine reduction, no taste change, no health-related claim
  • Only $24 cheaper than the two-stage system that adds carbon
  • No NSF certification
  • One-year warranty
  • Express Water publishes no dimensions for this model
  • 100,000 gallon rating is a ceiling, not a service schedule

The WH100SS is a single-stage whole house sediment filter in a 4.5 x 20 in housing with 1 in connections, a pressure gauge and a pressure release button, mounted on a stainless steel bracket. Filter life is rated up to 100,000 gallons or six to twelve months depending on incoming water. It is the cheapest whole house point of entry Express Water sells at $142.99.

Social Scores

Social Score

Product-level where an independent pool exists, brand-level elsewhere. Express Water publishes its own rating widget on every product page; that is the manufacturer's own data and is not scored here.

Reddit Score5.0

Brand-level. r/WaterTreatment coverage of Express Water whole house systems is limited and mixed. General advice in the subreddit is that multi-cartridge whole house systems are broadly interchangeable because they take the same standard cartridge sizes.

Google Score6.0

Brand-level. Editorial coverage places Express Water's whole house line at the budget entry of the whole-house carbon segment and notes it lacks the certified whole-house carbon evidence its competitors carry.
