Cleared, Measured Above Its Red Claim, and Short on Coverage

The face mask is a silicone mask with 66 triple-chip LEDs at 630, 830 and 465 nm on a corded battery controller, run in 10- or 20-minute sessions. Light Therapy Insiders (Alex Fergus), a market-wide tester who was sent the mask free and links to Kala, measured 26 mW/cm2 directly over the red and near-infrared LEDs with a spectrometer in July 2025, against Kala's 20 for red, so light output scores 6. FDA cleared it in May 2025 as the KALA Red Light Face Mask under K250581, a 510(k) held by its maker, Shenzhen Kaiyan Medical Equipment, whose summary matches its wavelengths, output and sessions, so it scores 7 on verification. Testers and owners fault gaps at the jaw, chin and under the eyes. Health Canada lists a recall of one lot in 2025 over an unclear manual. It is $339.99 on kalaredlight.com, sold as final sale.

PROS
  • 510(k) K250581, held by its maker Shenzhen Kaiyan
  • 26 mW/cm2 measured over the LEDs by a market-wide tester
  • Red, near-infrared and blue in one mask
  • Flexible silicone with a 10- or 20-minute timer
  • 2-year warranty
CONS
  • Gaps under the eyes, at the jaw and at the chin, per a tester and an owner
  • Controller corded to the mask
  • One lot recalled in Canada in 2025 over an unclear manual
  • Final sale, with no return
  • Amazon file split: 70 percent five-star, 19 percent one-star

The face mask is a flexible silicone mask, 11.73 by 8.50 by 0.20 inches and 12.3 oz, carrying 66 triple-chip LEDs at 630 nm red, 830 nm near-infrared and 465 nm blue, 198 light sources in all. A battery controller corded to the mask runs 10- or 20-minute sessions. Kala states 20 mW/cm2 red, 10 near-infrared and 10 blue. Kala's warranty covers it for 2 years, and Kala sells it as final sale.

Brand-level

Kala is the trading name of Kala Therapy Inc. of Etobicoke, Ontario, founded in 2019 by Cam Stajer, who appeared on CBC's Dragons' Den with co-founder Landon Schiller; the BBB gives its incorporation as March 2021, and its filings give addresses in Etobicoke, Mississauga and Toronto. FDA records name Shenzhen Kaiyan Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. as the maker of Kala's face mask, wand, Mini 2.0, neck device, hat and wrap, and list the Pro and Elite panels under the registration of Shenzhen Saidi Light Therapy Technology. Kala sells from kalaredlight.com, on Amazon US through its own store and resellers, and on Costco.com, which carries the Pro and Elite panels. Its Trustpilot profile for kalaredlight.com reads 3.1 from 2 reviews, one two-star and one one-star, unclaimed and never invited. The BBB rates Kala Therapy Inc. F, not accredited, with 51 complaints in three years, mostly about products and deliveries and 5 of them unanswered, and 1.29 from 17 customer reviews. Health Canada lists a Type II recall of one lot of the face mask in June 2025 because its user manual was unclear. Kala pays affiliates through Superfiliate and its creators' links give 15 percent off, so most write-ups of its devices carry a Kala code or link, and each is named with its tie where it is used. Kala's own review widget and channels, its ambassadors and its Team Canada athletes count in no pool, nor does kalaredlighttherapyreviews.ca, a single-brand affiliate site; Daryl Stubbs's Kala reviews count nowhere because his sites and channel carry links for Rouge, PlatinumLED and Bon Charge. Several Reddit commenters accused pro-Kala accounts of being company-linked, and those comments are not used. Amazon shows its review text only after sign-in, so the Amazon pools read star ratings alone, with no review text and no Vine count. Every Kala device carries a 2-year limited warranty; returns are taken within 30 days less a $15 restocking fee, at the buyer's shipping cost, and the returns page lists the mask, neck device, wand, wrap, hat and Quad as final sale although every product page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. On this row all five pools are populated: Reddit, web, YouTube and Amazon read the mask itself, and the retailer pool reads Kala as a brand, a point lower.
