500 W in one bag, staked not mounted

  • What it is: six 85 W bifacial panels hinged into one folding 500 W array for Jackery's larger Explorer stations
  • The trade-off: big output from one bag and a long warranty, but no output guarantee and no permanent mounting
  • Not checked: the front-sheet material, bypass diodes and gaps between panels; Jackery does not publish them
  • Look elsewhere for: a rooftop install, MC4 leads or a station outside Jackery's compatibility list

Strengths

  • High output from one folding array
  • Panels work alone or as a set
  • Fully waterproof and dustproof
  • Packs into one bag with its own stand
  • Long workmanship warranty

Drawbacks

  • No power-output warranty
  • Not made for permanent installation
  • Works only with Jackery's larger Explorer stations
  • Assembly takes hinges and screws

Jackery Inc. of Fremont, California sells Jackery in the US, and the brand belongs to Shenzhen Hello Tech Energy Co., Ltd., listed on the Shenzhen ChiNext board since September 2022.

It sells SolarSaga panels with a cart at jackery.com, on Amazon US, at Home Depot, Lowe's and Best Buy, and on Walmart through its own marketplace store.

The Jackery SolarSaga 500 X, model JS-500A in its manual (store SKU 21-0002-000093), is a folding bifacial array of six SolarSaga 85 panels (model JS-85A) with N-type TOPCon cells, joined by hinges into an M-shaped stand held down with ground stakes.

Wired in parallel, the six are rated 500 W (±5%) at standard test conditions, 41.7 V and 12.0 A at maximum power, 48.5 V open-circuit and 13.02 A short-circuit, and 545 W at bifacial nameplate irradiance.

Each 85 W panel measures 977 x 493 x 14 mm and weighs about 1.6 kg, and each works on its own through an Anderson output.

Jackery markets 25% conversion efficiency; the manual gives temperature coefficients of −0.32%/°C for Pmax and −0.26%/°C for Voc, a bifaciality coefficient above 80% for Pmax, and an operating range of −40 to 185 °F (−40 to 85 °C).

Set up, the array stands about 98.1 x 39.2 x 11.6 in (2493 x 996 x 294 mm); folded it is about 39.2 x 20.7 x 3.8 in (996 x 526 x 97 mm), and the manual gives 23.1 lb (10.5 kg ±0.5 kg). It is rated IP68 and Protection Class II, with a 90 V maximum system voltage.

It connects in parallel only, at most six 85 W panels per DC8020 input, and Jackery lists it for the Explorer 5000 Plus, 3000 Pro, 2000 Plus, 1000 Plus and 1000 v2.

The box holds the six panels, 10 hinges, 8 ground stakes, 40 screws, a hex key, two Anderson rubber plugs, a compass carabiner, an Anderson to DC8020 charging cable and a storage bag. Jackery is clear that it is not intended for permanent installation. The product page and the manual give a 5-year limited warranty.

It sells at $799.00 on jackery.com, also listed there as an add-on at the same price.
