The RO5004F-AK is the most feature-dense system iSpring sells at this price: anti-scale, UV, remineralization, leak-stop valve and a filter-life monitor for ninety dollars over the plain RO5004F. The top-mounted faucet fastener alone will save you a contorted half hour under the sink. The consistent catch across this family is certification, since no NSF/ANSI listing covers it. Four cartridge types is the most of any consumer iSpring, and the UV lamp and alkaline filter both recur on the bill rather than lasting the life of the unit. At $420 it is $272 below the NSF-listed RO500AK-BN and does more, which is the whole decision in one line. Nothing independent has measured any of it, so the anti-scale and UV stages are specified rather than demonstrated.
- Six stages including anti-scale, UV and alkaline remineralization
- Alkaline stage returns minerals and lifts pH, fixing the flat RO taste
- 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio at 500 GPD
- Built-in UV lamp rated to 8,000 working hours
- Leak-stop valve shuts the system down automatically if a leak occurs
- Top-mounted faucet fastener installs from above the counter
- Sound-damped casing keeps pump noise down
- Only $90 more than the non-alkaline RO5004F
- No NSF/ANSI certification; reductions are lab and manufacturer claims
- Four separate cartridge types to track and reorder
- UV lamp and alkaline filter both add to the running cost
- Requires an under-sink electrical outlet
- Municipal water only; well water needs pre-treatment
- Warranty is 1 year and requires product registration
The iSpring RO5004F-AK is the six-stage RO5004F with the taste-polishing carbon stage swapped for an FG500AK mineral remineralization filter. Water passes through a PP sediment filter, an anti-scale stage, a carbon block, a 0.0001-micron RO membrane, the alkaline mineral stage, and a built-in UV lamp rated to 8,000 working hours.
It is tankless and pump-driven at 500 gallons per day with a 2:1 pure-to-drain ratio, filling a cup in about ten seconds. The build carries over the RO5004F's leak-stop valve, filter-life monitor and sound-damped casing. A top-mounted faucet fastener lets the faucet be installed entirely from above the counter, which is a real time saver on deep cabinets.
Replacement cartridges are FP500, FC500SL, MRO5004F and FG500AK. iSpring does not carry NSF/ANSI certification on this model, so its contaminant figures are manufacturer and third-party lab claims.
