The Anti-Scale set is for a hard-water household whose priority is appliance protection and who does not want a softener's salt, drain line or regeneration cycle. Polyphosphate sequestration is a real mechanism and it does keep scale off heating elements and fixtures, which is the expensive part of hard water. What it categorically does not do is soften: the calcium and magnesium remain in the water, so the shower still feels the same, soap still behaves the same, and spotting on glassware is only partly addressed. Buyers who read anti-scale as a softener substitute are consistently disappointed, and Express Water's marketing does not make the distinction clearly. Against the $549 Hydro Express softener that actually removes hardness, this set costs $528 and does something narrower - which is defensible only if a drain connection is genuinely unavailable.

The Anti-Scale configuration runs sediment, a polyphosphate crystal cartridge and activated carbon block through the WH300 chassis. Polyphosphate sequesters calcium and magnesium so they stay in solution rather than depositing on heating elements and fixtures; it does not remove hardness. Rated at 0.25 gallons per second with 1 in connections and a filter set life of up to 100,000 gallons or six to twelve months.
