BerkeyPhoenix Elements and PF-2 Fluoride Filters Combo

Owners running PF-2 attachments describe the throughput drop most acutely, and the bundle inherits the two brand-level arguments that dominate Reddit: the disputed NSF-53 testing protocol and the aluminum-leaching finding against the activated alumina media. Phoenix itself is too new to have generated thread history.

Coverage notes the Phoenix elements as the first Berkey-branded filters to carry NSF certification, is clear that 42 covers aesthetic effects and 372 lead content in materials rather than health-effects reduction, and separately that the PF-2 is the only route to fluoride reduction in a Berkey. At least one certification-tracking reference records the Phoenix NSF listing as still pending.

Both halves of this bundle have now been lab-tested independently and both returned a leaching finding. BOS Water's May 2026 comparison disqualified the Phoenix elements over possible chloromethane above health guidelines despite recording the fastest filtration speed in the field, and Water Filter Guru's widely viewed test found aluminum at 1.44 ppm against an EPA limit of 0.2 ppm, traced to the PF-2's activated alumina. Amazon's listing for this exact bundle holds 4.0 out of 5 from only eight ratings, below the floor, so the figure here is the two components on their own listings: Phoenix at 4.1 from 59 and the PF-2 2-pack at 4.6 from 2,524, both at prices matching authorized-dealer pricing. Amazon's Berkey sellers are third-party rather than NMCL-authorized, so this rates units bought outside the authorized channel; Amazon controls collection and the listing price matches authorized-dealer pricing exactly.

Authorized dealer's pool: BigBerkeyWaterFilters.com shows 4.9 out of 5 from 15 reviews. That clears the ten-review floor but only just, and it is the thinnest product file the dealer holds; the component listings on the same site carry 58 and 631 reviews and are better evidence about what is in the box.
